ResponsibilitiesThe Hospital CFO is a Strategic Leader, responsible for refining and improving existing business models and developing new business models for current and future changes to health care economics. Keys to the success of this position will be strong strategic skills, leadership ability, and knowledge base to help 1) integrate various Ascension-wide strategies; 2) optimize financial performance and 3) develop business models for strategic opportunities including new ventures, partnerships, and continuum of care business development planning and expansion.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:
Essential functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Senior Leadership and Strategy. Serve as an integral member of the senior leadership team with shared responsibility for organizational strategic planning, oversight, decision making and change management. Align work to larger strategic plan and assume lead role in oversight of Financial policy, programs, process and research. Determine priorities and plans, set clear goals and accountabilities for finance staff, monitor progress and assure targets are reached. Provide expertise associated with business/finance issues. Support spiritual formation programs and champion those that relate to financial leaders.
Talent Management. Work with the Hospital Presidents and System leadership to develop finance team and partnering strategies to meet organizational needs. Motivate and engage non-financial leaders, physicians and clinical staff. Provide education, supervision, coaching, performance management and career development opportunities. Address behavioral and procedural concerns, resolve conflicts and take corrective and disciplinary action. Drive annual evaluations and financial leadership succession plans.
Stewardship. Drive utilization management to ensure effective use of organization resources and reduce cost of delivery of care. Analyze and achieve efficiency in the delivery of care and supply chain opportunities and apply principals of process management and control. Partner with other leaders to manage financial relationships, eliminate waste and reduce unnecessary expense.
Business and Market Opportunities. Provide financial vision and advice on the development and implementation of new service lines and growth opportunities, and formulate and implement strategic and tactical plans to grow market share. Identify, assess and catalyze potential organization alliances that help the ministry achieve its strategic vision. Use a systems approach to meet needs of community and provide healthcare services. Develop and maintain relationships with physician groups, other healthcare providers, research groups and academic institutions for the purposes of business collaboration.
Internal Relations and Communications. Serve as a key liaison between Finance and administration areas. Work in close partnership with other non-financial leaders to build highly effective delivery models. Drive cross-functional teamwork and communication with the goals of optimizing financial performance. Provide financial expertise and leadership to all areas of the region/hospital and facilitate a common understanding. Promote, exemplify and support the Ascension Health Values.
External Relations. Represent finance and the ministry with external stakeholders and build collaborative external relationships. Participate in committees and perform special projects as needed. Serve as champion for customer service including patient satisfaction outcomes and continuous improvement. Work with policy makers and local staff to impact legislation.
Catalyze Change. Serve as a change agent and champion to drive organizational transformation in alignment with strategy and vision. Foster a culture of shared ownership, continuous quality improvement, risk management and cost control. Engage and work with interdisciplinary teams to identify and implement change. Solicit input from key constituencies, engage them in the change, gain buy-in and support, and overcome resistance toward change. Foster a proactive learning organization culture where events are systematically processed and process adjustments are made in real time.
Data, Informatics and Technology. Support and champion the use of improved healthcare information technology to achieve optimal quality, efficiency, safety, data sharing, and financial efficiencies. Foster the effective transition and support for technology with finance.
System Role. Provide leadership in operationalizing the activities associated with Ascension Health Financial Excellence. Facilitate and drive communication and networking among financial leaders and non-financial leaders and across the ministry and within Ascension. Support and develop mechanisms to ensure the communication and spread of financial best practices throughout Ascension Health. Actively participate in Ascension Health financial activities, programs and meetings and serve as a local representative. Assure cascading alignment of financial staff with the mission, vision and strategic direction of Ascension.

RequirementsEducation:
Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 7 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 4 of those years being in leadership/management.Additional PreferencesPreferred:
10 years leadership experience
CPA or MBA preferred
Demonstrable financial leadership experience.
Proven track record in complex organization managing multiple, strategic projects.
Experience with areas including but not limited to healthcare delivery, quality, risk management, informatics, compliance, process improvement, strategic planning, and change management.
Board membership experience and/or community involvement.

Manages Financial Data and Metrics. Identifies, tracks, analyzes and communicates key measurements and leverages best practices.
Builds Internal and External Relationships. Builds and utilizes a network of highly collaborative relationships and engages diverse audiences in regard to technical and organizational medical issues, both internally and externally.
