JOB SUMMARY

\n

The Chaplain 2 provides advanced spiritual care as part of the holistic, multidisciplinary team approach when helping patients deal with or recover from their illness or injury. Provides compassionate spiritual and emotional support for all Baylor Scott & White Health patients, family members and staff, regardless of faith background or religious affiliation. Participates in the training and professional development of staff and oversees volunteers and residents.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: Board Certified Chaplain who is at ease with change, highly adaptable, and have a sense of humor and humility, as these traits are needed to best serve our level 2 Trauma program as well as our staff caregivers, patients, and families of our diverse, fast-growing emergency, critical care, trauma, ortho, oncology, and women's service lines.

SCHEDULE:

\n\nFive shifts per week, rotating biweekly between first and second shifts. \nRegular weekend shift coverage required. \nOccasional call duty is needed \n\nIf on call, candidate must be able to be onsite within 30minutes from the time of an activation for a death, code blue, trauma 1, etc.\n\n\n\n

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

\n\nPlans, coordinates, organizes, and conducts religious services for patients, their families and staff including weekly worship, memorial services, baptisms, weddings, anointing and coordinating bereavement needs.\nProvides counseling and other spiritual education activities for employees, students, and patients.\nSupports the end-of-life care for patients by offering pastoral support and counseling to patients and families.\nPartners with physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and ancillary staff as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team in assessing patient needs and to improve patient care.\nConducts a pastoral assessment of a patient's spiritual and emotional status and the need for spiritual care.\nDevelops relationships with local churches, community agencies and service organizations which supports the Baylor Scott & White Health community. Recruits, trains, and coordinates pastoral care volunteers.\nDocuments and maintains records of spiritual counseling for patients.\n\n

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

\n\nKnowledge of philosophical systems and religions.\nKnowledge of the methods and methods of pastoral care and the role of a chaplain in an institutional setting.\nKnowledge of the religious beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations.\nAble to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.\nListening skills\nSkill in counseling patients, family members and staff.\nAbility to counsel people during periods of stress.\nAbility to passionately participate as a member of a professional therapeutic team.\nDenominational endorsement for chaplaincy, ordination or commissioning to ministry preferred.\n\n

\n\nEDUCATION - Masters' or Bachelors plus 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification\nEXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience\nCERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Board Cert Chaplain (BCC): BCC may be applied to required years of experience.\n
