Chaplain

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Pastoral Care Supervisor the chaplain provides spiritual care for patients, family members and associates across the the continuum of care and assists with faith issues in the healing process. The chaplain provides cirsis intervention, pastoral services and spiritual assessments.

Responsibilities:

Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives. Completes assessments of patient and family spiritual needs and assists then in using their faith in dealing with trauma, illness and stress. Completes decedent care protocols to assists families in using their faith to cope with death. Provides patient and family education regarding Advanced Directives. Offers pastoral services according to departmental and organizational objectives

Qualifications:

Required:

Completion of religious order of study, divinity degree or pastoral care studies. Understanding of multicultural faith practices; and the ability to promote holistic health by ministering to individuals on an ecumenical and non-denominational basis, respecting and affirming all beliefs; and exemplifies Christian living. Specific information and the timeframe in which such certification must be attained will be provided by the department director/manager/supervisor at time of hire/transfer into department.

Preferred:

Has experience in pastoral care in a healthcare setting and spiritual counseling for patient and families. Is certificated by the Association of Professional Chaplains or National Association of Catholic Chaplains preferred and additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations.

Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.

Primary – required (routine) to do the job;
Secondary – required for the job, but mostly be exception; and
