Summary :The Chaplain provides pastoral care to patients, their loved ones, and team members within the ThedaCare system as appropriate. Collaborates with members of the care team to support patient and family experiences.Job Description:KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provides direct emotional and spiritual assessment and care for patients and families to meet identified emotional and spiritual needs.
Adjusts approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served including spiritual/religious informed care or service to deliver individualized patient-centered care.
Provides ethics consultation in collaboration with the bioethics committee to navigate through difficult patient care situations.
Collaborates with area clergy and faith community leaders to best support patient or family needs.
Works with the interdisciplinary team to identify and respond to the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, families, and team members.
Participates in the provision of education and training as appropriate, and participates in improvement activities that involve pastoral care services to improve overall quality of care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Functional knowledge of the religious principles and practices of major faiths
College and seminary degrees; (MDiv- preferred), Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE): 4 units CPE required, from an accredited center. Ecclesiastical or endorsement as a religious leader from a federally recognized faith group or community.
Professional certification - eligible for or board certified as a chaplain by a national certifying organization (i.e. Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplain, etc.). Board certified within two years of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance
Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
Occasional high noise level in work environment
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients
Position requires compliance with department specific competencies.
