JOB SUMMARY
The Chaplain Resident 1 provides compassionate spiritual and emotional support for all Baylor Scott & White Health patients, family members and staff, regardless of faith background or religious affiliation as part of a holistic, multidisciplinary team approach. Serves in a residency program of one (1) year duration in accordance with the Clinical Pastoral Education Program accredited by ACPE:The Standard for Spiritual Care and Education and Baylor Scott & White Health policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Fulfills CPE requirements; continues professional development of behavior-based competencies in the delivery of spiritual care services.Organizes, promotes, and conducts religious services for patients, their families and staff including weekly worship, memorial services, baptisms, weddings, anointing and coordinating bereavement needs.Works collaboratively with the Professional Chaplain who serves as a ?Mentor? in the resident?s provision of spiritual care within the context of the interdisciplinary teams context.Supports the end-of-life care for patients by offering spiritual support and counseling to patients and families.Partners with physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and ancillary staff as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team in assessing patient needs and to enrich patient care.Properly documents spiritual care and pastoral assessments and care within the EPIC templates.Conducts a pastoral assessment of a patient's spiritual and emotional status and the need for spiritual care.KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Knowledge of philosophical systems and religions.Knowledge of the methods and methods of pastoral care and the role of a chaplain in an institutional setting.Knowledge of the religious beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations.Able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.Relational and listening skills.Skill in counseling patients, family members and staff.Ability to counsel people during periods of stress.Ability to passionately participate as a member of a professional therapeutic team.Ability to continue pastoral professional development.Enrollment in or completed a Master's degree in theology studies or closely related discipline at an institution accredited by a member of the council for higher education accreditation preferred.Denominational endorsement for chaplaincy, ordination or commissioning to ministry preferred.BENEFITS
