JOB SUMMARY
The Charge RN – Emergency Department oversees the nursing care and department functions on assigned shift & is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of patients in the E.D. Provides triage assessments, determines urgency of presenting complaints, designates triage category/placement, initiates protocols, provides ongoing assessments, provides emergency nursing care, & reports changes in condition to Emergency Provider.

EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Minimum Required: Minimum 2 years current (within 7 years) ED Nursing experience. Successful current charge or relief charge nurse experience. Demonstrates excellence in customer service and professional conduct. Possesses good communication skills. Interacts appropriately and positively with peers, patients, families, physicians, and professionals. Maintains professionalism in the community, protects the confidentiality of the patient and serves as a patient advocate at all times.
Demonstrates ability to function as a resource to coworkers re: emergency issues. Must demonstrate ability to monitor/observe employee work performance and correct inappropriate/incorrect performance as it occurs. Remains aware of patient flow status. Able to seriously analyze patient flow and recognize importance of preplanning. Demonstrates leadership skills.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required Current Michigan nursing license. BCLS, ACLS, PALS required, conscious sedation certification and TNCC required or within 6 months of hire. Achieves 80% or better on medication test.
