Charge Nurse - Med Surg
POSITION STANDARDS Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred. Current New Hampshire nursing license. Current BCLS certification required upon hire. Current ACLS certification required within 90 days of hire. Registered Nurse with at least 1-2 years relevant clinical experience. Position Objective Coordinates and supports the day-to-day activities of a defined team of nurses and support staff in the care of patients utilizing best practice and ensuring adherence to regulations and policies. Coordinates services with other patient care areas, and provides direct patient care as appropriate.

 

Performance Expectation Demonstrates proficiency in all Registered Nurse performance standards and expectations. Monitors and coordinates the daily staff and patient care activities of the unit to ensure full coverage of patient care needs at all times and to ensure effective patient services. Leads, guides, and assists employees performing related work. Oversees and provides direct nursing assessment and/or other related care and consultation to patients as required. Works in collaboration with providers and other health team members to coordinate services with patient care areas as required; maintains communication with allied services and maintains community liaison as appropriate. Supports quality improvement activities and compliance to operational standards. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Acts as a resource within the hospital as appropriate during the off shifts (evenings, nights, weekends and holidays). Be the hub of communication for hospital wide patient needs Lead all bed management meetings and call any additional bed management meetings as needed Keep other nursing units, physicians and the Administrator On-call (AOC), as needed, aware of bed availability Be the “go to” for access to Medical Records, Pharmacy, Materials Department etc. Initiate, as appropriate, calls to the AOC (e.g. sentinel events, disasters, crisis situations requiring additional support etc.)
