DUTIES: BorgWarner Ithaca, LLC seeks a Charging Products Power Electronics Hardware Engineer based out of our office at 3800 Automation Avenue, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned office address. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned office address. Note, this position requires international and/or domestic travel up to 10% of the time.
Drive the expansion of BorgWarner Morse Systems’ eProduct development talent and capabilities in support of the EV DC Fast Charger product line for North America; Support product development, including internal development initiatives and collaboration initiatives with external partners and government bodies such as the US Department of Energy; Drive the hardware architecture and topology definition for high power, high frequency circuits (50-350+ kW/1.5 kV) from ideation, to prototype proof of concept delivery, to production; Collaborate with software engineers and PCB layout engineers required to deliver a high-quality solution within an accelerated timeline; Conduct design, documentation, and design validation aligned with a rigorous engineering development process; Maintain responsibility for all aspects of product design, including modeling, key component selection, schematic capture, PCB support, code development, magnetics design, thermal design, regulatory and compliance considerations, and DFM; Collaborate with software engineers to define and implement firmware, drivers, and algorithms; Guide the activities of the PCB layout engineer; Ensure the rigorous BorgWarner engineering development V cycle process is followed; Develop documentation in accordance with internal and external standards for certification and homologation requirements; Support robust DFMEA, and DVP&R development; Serve as a product lead in the lab during prototype builds, test, troubleshoot, or teardown throughout the product development and validation.
REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical & Mechanical Engineering and 96 months of experience in job offered or other related product development position in automotive / industrial DC fast chargers for High Voltage and High Power systems.
Required experience must include: Experience supporting automotive product development and release; Experience applying product lifecycle; Experience developing high voltage high power topologies and components; Experience using electromechanical devices, including power MOSFET, IGBT, SiC; Experience designing 3 phase AC/DC PFC and multi KW DC/DC resonant converters; Experience applying control theory to power electronics; Experience applying the understanding of system level engineering tradeoffs to conduct electrical/electronic designs; Experience conducting thermal management of electronics and electronic components; Experience developing batteries and charging systems; Experience applying relevant industrial and automotive standards for industrial and consumer products, including EMC.
