Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Intern to join our Chemical Development department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. As an Intern, you will work in an organic synthesis laboratory and gain hands-on experience with solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis (SPOS). Research for the intern will focus on developing a process to access shorts oligonucleotides (blockmers) via SPOS and, if time, pursue novel methods to prepare oligos in batch. You will have the opportunity to gain a broad perspective on process development in an industrial setting.

Duties & Responsibilities Learn industry lab and spectroscopic techniquesComplete tasks in a safe and compliant mannerPerform literature search as necessaryMaintain proper records of experiments in a notebookPresent research results in both oral and written formatsPerform scientific experiments in organic chemistry and using solid-phase synthesizer Requirements Must be a current graduate or advanced degree student in good academic standing Student must be enrolled at a college or university for the duration of the internship Overall cumulative minimum GPA from last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferredMajor or minor in related field of internshipUndergraduate students must have completed at least 12 credit hours at current college or universityGraduate and Advanced Degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or universityDesired Experience, Skills and Abilities:
A graduate student who has completed at least 2 years of studies in organic chemistry (3rd year graduate student or later)Hands-on research experience in organic chemistry, oligonucleotide chemistry, and/or solid-phase synthesisAbility to think critically about experimental results and use that information to conduct further experimentsSignificant interest in learning about process chemistryAbility to work independently and as part of a teamCompensation DataThis position offers an hourly rate of $20.00 - $33.00 USD / hr. commensurate to the level of degree program in which an applicant is actively enrolled.
