Job Description Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Chemical Hygiene Officer, Environmental Health & Safety Role Overview: + Oversee all regulatory compliance associated with the role of Chemical Hygiene Officer as defined by 29 CFR 1910.1450 and serve across MSK clinical and research laboratories. + Maintain, update, implement and audit the MSK institutional Chemical Hygiene Plan and all relevant policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local standards. Programs include Chemical Hygiene Plan and associated High Hazard Operating Procedures, Personal Protective Equipment, Chemical Inventory Management, Engineering Controls (e.g., Fume Hoods) and Accident/Incident Investigations. + Perform laboratory risk assessments to specify design and quality of administrative and engineering controls to minimize employee exposure to hazardous laboratory chemicals/agents. + Conduct monthly laboratory safety training sessions for laboratory personnel and upon request, assist laboratory supervisors in developing and conducting specialized training sessions. + Administer a robust laboratory inspection program, inspect labs, work practices, and communicate findings for correction and future prevention. + Lead Lab Safety Representatives program as part of the CHP implementation and effectively communicate updates/progress and new information. + Identify, develop and track of service level metrics to drive continuing improvement and efficiency of processes and procedures. Assist principal investigators and staff with all matters related to lab safety. + Act as a liaison with FDNY for regulatory inspections and assist with addressing violation orders. + Respond to hazardous material spills, and workplace injuries and incident investigations. + Direct staff performing outreach of EHS services and work closely with other EHS staff and MSK departments and personnel. Key Qualifications: + 5+ years’ experience in chemical safety and laboratory safety + Knowledge of EHS standards from OSHA, NFPA, EPA, DEC, DOT, FDNY, and state/local regulatory agencies + Capable of working independently and as a team member to develop and implement programs with EHS staff and MSK departments. + Ability to act decisively when responding to emergency situations. + Knowledge of federal, state and city regulations pertaining to health and safety. Core Skills : + Excellent communication skills and ability to influence effectively at all levels within the organization. + Demonstrated initiative and analytical problem-solving skills - ability to use and interpret data to drive decision making. + Energetic and self-driven, ability to effectively shift priorities and work at a fast-paced environment. + Proficient in the use of computers including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
