Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Chemical Label Safety Specialist to join our team. This role will be crucial in ensuring the safe handling, classification, and labeling of chemicals, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant safety and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating raw materials, managing sustainability requests, and creating accurate chemical product labels. They will also classify hazardous materials for transportation and maintain data related to chemical safety.
ResponsibilitiesEvaluate raw materials for compliance with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.Implement and enforce chemical safety protocols to mitigate risks to personnel and the environment.Stay up to date on local, national, and international regulations regarding chemical safety.Maintain accurate and organized records related to chemical inventory, safety data sheets (SDS), and safety protocols.Enter data into databases and systems to track and update chemical materials and safety information.Assist in the preparation of reports and audits related to chemical safety compliance.Classify hazardous chemicals and materials according to regulatory frameworks (e.g., GHS, OSHA, DOT).Ensure proper classification for transportation and storage, adhering to the latest regulations for dangerous goods.Design, generate, and review safety labels and markings for chemical products, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.Work closely with product teams to ensure labels meet both safety and marketing standards.Manage sustainability-related inquiries and requests related to chemicals and materials used in products.Prepare and submit documentation for environmental certifications and sustainability programs.Provide training and guidance to staff on proper chemical labeling and handling procedures.Assist in the development and delivery of safety training materials for internal teams.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.Minimum of 2 years of experience in chemical safety, labeling, or regulatory compliance.Familiarity with global chemical safety standards and regulations (OSHA, GHS, DOT, REACH, etc.).Strong understanding of chemical properties, safety guidelines, and hazardous material classifications.Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies in safety labels and documentation.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and chemical safety software/tools.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.Additional Skills & QualificationsCertification in chemical safety or hazardous materials handling (e.g., HAZWOPER, DOT, GHS) is a plus.Experience with SAP or other chemical inventory management systems.Knowledge of sustainability practices and environmental compliance standards.Ability to create clear, concise, and accurate safety documentation and labels.Work Environment
Ability to work in a laboratory or industrial environment, with exposure to chemicals and safety equipment. May require some travel to visit suppliers, attend training, or ensure regulatory compliance in different locations
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $31.25 - $36.06
