Chemical Process Owner - Business Unit

Basic Qualifications

BS in Engineering from an accredited institution At least 2 years experience developing, improving, or productionizing chemical processes in an industrial setting Demonstrates considerable ingenuity and creativity while recognizing prudent risk Ability to work in a self-directed or team environment with good organizational skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States, verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire, visa sponsorship is not available for this position This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Preferred Qualifications

BS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry is highly desired MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry 3-5 years related experience in chemical process management or chemical process engineering in a production environment Knowledge of leaching, etching, or stripping of oxide ceramic materials and coatings Knowledge of MS Office, JMatPro, Minitab, excellent written and oral communication skills, able to work in a self-directed or team environment and have good organization skills Working knowledge of statistical analysis and SPC Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to work in a self-directed or team environment Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Process Management a plus

The  Engines Business Unit Chemical Process Engineer (Chemical Process Owner) may be located at any of the US Howmet Engines Business Unit facilities . Using a disciplined process management approach, this position will team with Howmet Engines’ manufacturing operations to assess, optimize and implement sustainable chemical processes that  lead to high product yield and quality. Essential functions include:

Support the manufacture of Ni and Ti investment castings and high-temperature coatings through chemical process control. Assess, optimize and implement new technologies, materials, and supplies for cost savings, process improvements, and quality improvements relative to chemicals and chemical processes used within the Engines Business Unit. Own responsibility for the revisions and upkeep of Business Unit Chemical Process Manuals to drive best practices across global manufacturing facilities. Ensure chemical processes are performed in compliance with the methods, materials and equipment specifications as detailed in the Business Unit manuals, business operating procedures, industry requirements, and customer requirements. Support/lead internal and external audits of chemical processes and gap closures within the business unit global manufacturing facilities. Participate in NADCAP industry chemical process committees as a voting member to represent Howmet.  Evaluate and document process changes, obtaining customer or engineering approval when required. Perform root cause investigations on deviations from critical process specifications and provide technical support to Plant Engineering grounded in six sigma methodology to resolve Chemical Process related issues. Act as a conduit between Manufacturing Facilities and the Research Center to ensure that technology needs are communicated and new technology is rapidly tested and implemented.
