** Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing and recruiting firm that is looking for an experienced Chemical Technician to fill a nine-month assignment in the Bucks, AL area.
This position may require some bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting, prolonged walking, walking on gravel or crawling when necessary.

Job Title: Chemical Technician

Requirements:
Qualifications: AS degree in Chemistry or other field of science with a MINIMUM of 12 semester hours in Chemistry required Prior experience and knowledge of boiler/water analysis preferred Previous work experience in a water treatment plant preferred Experience and competency in the use, calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment Knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred Familiarity with mechanical parts and repair is preferred Knowledge and experience in production of deionized water is preferred

PPE Includes, but not limited to: Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Gloves (various), steel toe boots, face shield (depending on hazard), respirator
Physical Requirements: Respirator use may be required Standing is required to perform test throughout plant and record instrument readings Walking is required to maneuver between laboratories, water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities; distance may be up to approximately 3.5 miles on various surfaces from uneven terrain, stairs, ladders and elevators Sitting is required while operating company truck and monitoring computer screen control panels Exerting a force of 50 lbs. occasionally to lift, carry, and push/pull bags per process or 10 to 25 lbs. frequently or greater than negligible amounts up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects Carrying is required to maneuver bags of powdered chemicals into basins, containments, and batch tanks Push/pull is required to open/close valves on scheduled rounds, valves wheels, maneuver oxygen tanks in to position for replacement Hand-arm controls are required to operate vehicle, adjust small valves, gauges, instruments and use keyboard Foot-leg controls are required to operate vehicle Climbing is required to monitor plant equipment including top floor of degasifier (69 steps) Maneuver in/out of company vehicle, up/down stairs and ladders Balancing is required to maintain equilibrium to prevent falls when walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and maneuvering in/out of vehicle Full body range of motion is required to stoop, kneel, crouch and maneuver in/out of confined spaces (hatch opening 15”), obtain sample analysis and perform inspections Full body range of motion is required for reaching, handling and fingering to extend arms and hands in any direction from overhead to below waist to seize, hold, grasp, push/pull, align, orient, turn, and twist Talking and hearing are required to convey and receive detailed instructions Near and far acuity are required for clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, 20 feet or more to maneuver in and around equipment and plant Performing near point work at varying distances from the eye Depth perception and field of vision are required to monitor computer screen control panels, maneuver up/down on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain and operate vehicle. Exposure to atmospheric condition are required in and around equipment with extreme heat up to (115 degrees) A sense of smell is required to detect chemical odors Contact with water, liquids, fumes and noxious odor exposures are possible Noise/vibration exposure around equipment and vehicles Electric shock and moving mechanical parts exposure around equipment and vehicles Perception is required to analyze data and make technical recommendations Memory is required to recall safety guidelines, standard protocol and specified parameters Concentration and problem solving is required to perform chemical and physical test to minimize loss of efficiency and ensure accuracy of equipment
Key Responsibilities: Tracking inventory Prioritizing orders Maintaining lab equipment Documenting the processes during each chemical test Following environmental regulations and reviewing newly published safety protocols from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFRA) Preparing chemical solutions Completing chemical orders and storing solutions safely according to different temperature requirements Conducting lab tests to ensure that chemicals are safe to use and recording and troubleshooting issues for further assessment Compiling and interpreting lab test results and correcting potential anomalies in results Monitoring chemical processes and resolving production issues by meeting with the appropriate personnel Producing and retrieving graphical results to share with lab managers or more senior personnel Sterilizing work surfaces and equipment before using them and replacing worn or damaged equipment as needed Training new technicians on different chemical processes and periodically updating their knowledge of chemical technology Performs technical and analytical services needed for efficient operation of a fossil power plant Provides chemical protection in boilers and turbines Performs chemical and physical tests to minimize loss of efficiency Operates water treatment plant within specified parameter Performs calibrations and maintains laboratory instrumentation to ensure accuracy of equipment Execute bulk chemical unloading Operate a vehicle Record gauge and instrument readings Obtain samples for analysis and distinguish color to ascertain if tests are within specified limits, observe subtle color Test chemicals for impurities, perform quality assurance, ensure that all chemicals produced comply with the applicable regulations and assess their environmental impact Perform regular testing to determine what chemicals a product or sample contains
