**Summary** : Our client provides noise and vibration-damping systems for the aerospace industry. As a Chemist, you will be formulating, developing and coating thin film viscoelastic materials (VEMs). **Title** : Chemist **Location** : South-Bend/Mishawaka, IN **Salary** : $80-100,000 + benefits **Responsibilities** : Improving existing formulations or developing new ones to meet the needs of the customer’s specifications. Interact with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to ensure the new or existing formula is robust, profitable, and commercialized. + Team collaboration, product qualification, and product development efforts + Helps with projects from initial trials up through product commercialization. + This is a hands-on role, must have the ability to perform necessary laboratory and application tasks to evaluate samples and develop new materials. + Mixing and coating experimental films on pilot coater for evaluation. + Mixing rubber formulas with a sigma mixer and testing for performance enhancements. + Providing feedback on project status on issues observed during development stages. + Analyzing results of formula modifications to ensure the specification is met. + Troubleshoot problems to identify root causes and provide remedial solutions. + Maintain accurate records and write scientific reports as needed. + Support manufacturing and quality control (QC) activities. + Provide required technical data and information to Sales & Marketing. + Recommending testing to measure the mechanical properties of experimental materials to meet existing and new specifications. + Interpreting damping properties as measured by ASTM E756 or similar tests. + Ensuring the fire resistance of new materials as tested by FAR 25.853 Appendix F and ASTM E162 **Requirements:** + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Chemistry and/or equivalent experience in the field. + A minimum of three (3) years’ experience of applicable experience, ideally with the formulation of Adhesives, Sealants, and other similar products. + Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills and effective communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolutions skills. + Strong skills in planning, coordinating, and operating in an effective, efficient, and profitable manner. + Must have the ability to establish and set systems in place to accomplish the goals and objectives of the company. + Proficient in Microsoft applications. + The ability to run rheology test equipment (DMA, DSC and/or similar) is a plus + Working knowledge of different polymer chemistries is a plus As part of our promise to talent, Kelly supports those who work with us through a variety of benefits, perks, and work-related resources.
