We are currently seeking a Chemistry Intern for Summer 2025. This position is 100% onsite located in Columbus, Ohio.
The selected candidate will work in our Advanced Materials and Energetics group specializing in synthesis, formulation and processing, testing and evaluation of polymeric, ceramic and metallic materials. A successful candidate will be expected to understand fundamentals of chemistry, different characterization and measurement methods, and data analysis approaches. Experience with conducting laboratory work as well as searching technical literature is required. The candidate will be expected to conduct laboratory experimentation, data compilation, and literature searches under the guidance of a senior scientist. Daily work activities may include testing, analysis, and documentation.
Responsibilities Conduct literature searches with tools such as SciFinderPerform hands-on wet chemistry with the ability to conduct lab-scale reactions from a few grams to kilogramFormulation of materials such as adhesives, sealants, and coatingsPerform characterization on various analytical equipment such as NMR, FTIR, GC, etc.Testing and evaluation of materials such as rubbers, plastics, and metalsWill safely work in a collaborative fast-paced, team environment. Contribute to safe work practices, ensuring the safety of personnel across programs while working in a collaborative, fast-paced, team environment.Keep accurate records of lab experimentsContribute to internal and external client reportsKey Qualifications Must be currently enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree program in ChemistryMust be Junior standing or higher by the start of the internship Knowledge of lab procedures and capable of keeping accurate lab recordsKnowledge of testing and characterization equipmentAbility to prepare and deliver written reports and presentationsMust be a sole US citizenPreferred Qualifications Experience working in a laboratory or previous related internship experienceCourse work and immediate experience in polymer materialsCourse work and experience working in organic chemistryPreparing You for Career Success
