Job SummaryThe selected candidate will work in our Advanced Materials and Energetics group specializing in synthesis, formulation and processing, testing and evaluation of polymeric, ceramic and metallic materials. A successful candidate will be expected to understand fundamentals of chemistry, different characterization and measurement methods, and data analysis approaches. Experience with conducting laboratory work as well as searching technical literature is required. The candidate will be expected to conduct laboratory experimentation, data compilation, and literature searches under the guidance of a senior scientist. Daily work activities may include testing, analysis, and documentation.
Responsibilities Perform hands-on wet chemistry with the ability to conduct lab-scale reactions from a few grams to kilogramPerform characterization and interpret results on various analytical equipment such as NMR, FTIR, GC, etc.Maintain laboratory with a commitment to safety with appropriate use of PPE, chemical storage, etc. Ability to follow as well as adapt and develop synthetic approaches based on existing practicesConduct chemical literature searches with tools such as SciFinder Collaborate with other scientists, engineers, and techniciansEffective communication of resultsContribute to internal and external client proposals and reportsKey Qualifications BS in Chemistry, with 0-2 years of hands-on wet chemistry/practical laboratory experienceExposure to the operation and maintenance of essential scientific instrumentation associated with, but not limited to, HPLC, GC, FTIR, and NMR. Ability to generate and analyze data, prepare written reports of findings, and maintain a laboratory notebook.Ability to document and present technical findings in their area of research. Basic knowledge of laboratory safety. Good communication and writing skills.Must be eligible and able to obtain a DoD Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications Develop and contextually present information from numerous technical resources to support research objectives.
