Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates six nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. Southern Nuclear is leading the nuclear renaissance by building the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 25 years. When completed, the two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors currently under construction at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA will make the facility the largest in the U.S. with four reactors on one site. Summary of Position Duties
We currently have opportunities located at our Plant Vogtle 3&4 facility for Chemistry Technicians. As a Chemistry Technician your expertise and training will play a critical role in minimizing impurity ingress to ensure component and system protection, maintaining fuel integrity, controlling the radiation field of the operating units, and will be critical to the initial testing and commercial operation of the new units. Through your efforts, Plant Vogtle will continue to produce efficient and reliable power to serve Georgia’s residents.
Job responsibilities include water sampling and analysis, chemical additions to plant systems, chemical analyses, radio-chemistry, laboratory Quality Assurance and Quality Control analyses, field monitoring, preparing reports.
Education
Required: Four year degree from an accredited college or university in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Physics or other Physical Science major or equivalent as determined by management; with BS degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, preferred OR Nuclear Navy ELT experience. Any Physical Science major BS Degree other than a BS in Chemistry will require advanced Chemistry courses.Experience
Three years nuclear power plant experience preferred. One-year laboratory experience preferred, which may include college laboratory experience.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Demonstrated commitment to safe laboratory practices. Knowledge of laboratory analytical techniques and applied power plant water conditioning concepts. Analytical instrumentation, make up demineralizers, ion exchange resin principles, chemical and physical properties. Familiar with environmental sampling, methods, requirements and practices. Working knowledge of computer software programs.Behavior Attributes

Candidates must successfully pass the EEI Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) test.
Other Requirements
This position will require shift work which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
This position is covered under a collective bargaining unit.
