JOB PURPOSE:
The LOCKSS Program at Stanford created and maintains the award-winning LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keeps Stuff Safe) peer-to-peer digital preservation software. It also supports and stewards the global community of adopters that has grown up around it, including the Global LOCKSS Network, CLOCKSS, and more than a dozen Private LOCKSS Networks. The Chief Business Officer for LOCKSS provides programmatic and administrative leadership for LOCKSS’s community and business efforts. They will work in concert with the LOCKSS Program Manager who oversees technology and operational activities for the program.
The Chief Business Officer is a senior role for a proven and experienced leader with business acumen and library, publishing and/or digital preservation experience. They will lead the creation of new LOCKSS-based services; develop and oversee service level agreements with current and future stakeholders in the LOCKSS ecosystem; provide oversight and strategic direction for program administration; initiate, pursue and guide successful execution of grants; and shape the global community of LOCKSS users and LOCKSS-based services. The Chief Business Officer will have a high visibility, high impact role in helping the Stanford University Libraries make the LOCKSS program at Stanford both survive and thrive by maximizing its reach and contribution for digital preservation services serving the academy.
This is a continuing, renewable position based on performance, with a three year term to start. This position is eligible for remote or hybrid work.
CORE DUTIES*:
● Develop and maintain core and new services to optimize the ability of customers to use LOCKSS to meet their objectives. Collaborate with stakeholders across the LOCKSS ecosystem nationally and internationally to integrate program development and strategically expand services.
● Work with stakeholders to define, agree and manage to service level objectives.
● Lead and manage business relationships with key constituencies, including CLOCKSS, members of the Global LOCKSS Network, and leaders/members of various Private LOCKSS Networks.
● Develop, monitor, analyze, forecast and report on the annual budget in support of the strategic plan for the program. Develop methods for cost recovery and revenue to support program activities, including grant proposals.
● Implement, evaluate and maintain a strategic plan and related planning initiatives, policies and procedures responsive to the organization's mission, goals, and objectives.
● Collect, prepare and analyze reports and statistics; develop and monitor key metrics for performance against the goals and strategic plans of the library.
● Direct and oversee efficient administration of the LOCKSS program, including record- and bookkeeping.
● Develop and advance the global community of LOCKSS users, expanding the profile and reputation of the program and its services at both grassroots and leadership levels with key stakeholders.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Master’s degree in library science or equivalent professional experience and seven years of relevant experience in an academic library setting including at least five years of management experience in increasingly responsible positions or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
● Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of library operations including extensive knowledge of contemporary library practices, trends and emerging technologies, Knowledge of and experience with outcomes and assessment of library services.
● Knowledge of collection development, archival, acquisitions, cataloging, database management, library instruction and information literacy, public and technical services, and reference.
● Ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of people at various levels to achieve results.
● Demonstrated successful experience developing and maintaining budgets.
● Effective problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
● Demonstrated broad knowledge of library-related systems, services and information technologies.
● Ability to stimulate innovation and creativity in new service initiatives and utilize resources for the advancement of a world class program.
● Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills and a demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team environment.
● Experience using technologies to provide and enhance library services and their changing roles in higher education. Experience in use of digital knowledge management and delivery systems.

● Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
● Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
● Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).
● Rarely use a telephone, operate hand controls.
● Must be able to push and maneuver a fully loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.

This remote role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures .The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate. The expected pay range for this position is $204,675.00 - $245,609.00 per annum/hour.
