Job SummaryThe Chief CRNA is responsible for the direction, integration, facilitation, and coordination of leadership, management, clinical, and quality initiatives. This position serves as a professional role model, leader, and mentor to members of the healthcare team in accordance with the organizational and departmental philosophy and goals. The Director coordinates the development of an environment that promotes excellence in clinical practice and customer satisfaction while striving for optimal efficiency and productivity of all resources, through direct relationship with the team, MWHC leadership and physicians.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Directs operations of assigned departments; provides integration, facilitation, and direction for all department initiatives.Facilitates coordination, communication, and collaboration among staff, surgeons, ancillary departments, and members of the health care team, the community, and hospital administration.Directs the staff development to include hiring, evaluations, assessment of clinical competencies and maintenance of all hospital and regulatory requirements while working to help MWHC achieve the best employer status.Directs in conjunction with MWHC leadership, and CRNA leadership team the recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention process.Manages develops, coaches and mentors managerial staff to supervise day-to-day operations to support the Associates who provide care and to meet the needs of all customers. Conducts performance appraisals and provides feedback to Associates.Collaborates with MWHC Leadership and the health care team to plan and manage the departmental budgets. Participates in capital budget requests and equipment review.Possesses knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and develops methodologies to review and ensure compliance.Utilizes benchmarking and networking in strategic planning for departmental growth in conjunction with performance improvement processes to meet organizational and community goals.Provides oversight for the development and implementation of standards. Regularly assesses and implements plans for departmental growth and development.Utilizes the performance improvement process to identify opportunities for improving outcomes in clinical effectiveness, clinical practice, service operations, and standards. Collaborates as needed to develop and implement improvements accordingly.Meets regularly with appropriate divisional chairpersons to facilitate communication and engagement in problem solving to actively address and resolve items as well as fostering a culture consistent with MWHC values.Attends divisional /department meetings as necessary to engage in discussions and/or present CRNA issuesEstablish and chair/coordinate a committee of CRNAs at different MWHC sites to represent the group on current issues, policy and proceduresDelegates authority sets expectations and holds CRNA leadership and staff accountable. Develops performance indicators for operations evaluates outcomes and provides timely feedback.Embraces diversity, implements change management strategies, and fosters empowerment of the professional excellence.Develops processes and methodologies to coordinate resolution of customer satisfaction and quality issues. Participates in clinical reviews as needed.Collaborates with Nursing Education to develop annual competency and service educational plan to ensure the delivery of quality care.Reviews and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of anesthesia care.Maintains professional competencies by attending educational programs, participating in professional organizations, and maintaining certification.Performs duties and responsibilities as defined in the CRNA Scope of practice/job description, as needed, including some clinical practice as responsibilities permit.Develops and participates in administrative call for the department.Delegates student CRNA education and training and works in concert with MWHC leadership with educational institutions that fosters cooperative relationship.Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Graduation from a nurse anesthesia program fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and recognized by the boards of nursing and medicine.Master’s degree in related discipline required. or Doctorate degree preferred.Current Virginia licensure as a Registered Nurse required.Current NBCRNA certification as Nurse Anesthetist required.Current Virginia licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in Anesthesia required.Current BLS and ACLS certification required.Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer for the limits required by the state of Virginia required.Successful completion of the credentialing or re-credentialing process through the office of Medical Staff Services required.A minimum of ten years of work experience in a related field required.A minimum of five years of management/supervisory experience required.Professional Nursing Leadership Certification (ANCC or AONL) must be obtained within 3 years of hire dateDemonstrates proficiency in verbal and written communication, as well as computerized systems.Experience with electronic systems and programs.Ability to work in a stressful environment.Demonstrates collaboration with physicians, staff and Mary Washington Healthcare Associates.Demonstrates the ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives.Demonstrates professional and positive behavior.
