It’s an exciting time to be at Navistar! We are seeking an experienced Chief Industrial Designer to join the Navistar R&D team. As part of the Traton Group, our team is involved with the development of emerging technologies, electrification, autonomous driving, and sustainability to create the future of the commercial truck and bus industry.

Responsibilities Oversees the creation and development of the look of products including shape, color, and size. Focuses on product external appearance rather than the internal functionality.Evaluates feasibility of design ideas, based on factors such as appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production costs/methods and market characteristics.Oversees projects to ensure they meet appearance, cost, quality, and timing deliverables within the program scope. Determine timing, budget, and staffing needs for all projects.Operate in a fast paced, dynamic, and evolving environmentHave a solid background of the current product portfolio of NavistarKnow and understand the competition and future trendsUnderstand future trends in product design to forecast application to Navistar productsPossess the ability for 2D sketching and basic 3D digital modeling for concept development and/or explorationUtilize both verbal and visual presentation skills to present to upper management to support conceptsPossess the appropriate skills to communicate and work with intra-studio disciplines—digital and physical modeling staffParticipate in cross-functional team meetings relating to all projectsBuild the team environment and oversee team members in problem solvingAssume ownership for all project deliverables and pro-actively report progress to upper managementAssume responsibility for multiple projects with equal performanceAbility to think outside the box with viabilityAbility to present to Senior ManagementRepresent Industrial Design in SMTTake the lead in organizing and leading meetings with other SMT membersParticipate in up-front project planning and timingUtilize technical knowledge and skills to mentor other Industrial Design staff to elevate the effectiveness of R&DOrganize weekly design reviews and determine content of items to be reviewedMake recommendations to Director of Design for design direction of projectsBe detail oriented and self-motivatedHave excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skillsWork effectively in a team environment
  Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degreeAt least 12 years of industrial design experience6 years of management experience

Master's degreeAt least 10 years of industrial design experience6 years of management experience

At least 14 years of industrial design experience6 years of management experience Additional Requirements Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States.
