This position serves as the chief fundraising officer for CHA and its subsidiaries. They will plan and be responsible for establishing a strong major gift and grant program while increasing CHA’s exposure to the philanthropic community. This is a highly visible, externally facing role and the individual will represent the organization in cultivating donors with the greatest capacity while managing leadership volunteers.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership and management of the CHA Foundation and Foundation Board including:

Oversee and staff of CHA Foundation. As appropriate, determine the need for, recruit, develop, and retain talented professionals.

Partner with CHA CEO, Chair of the CHA Board of Trustees, and the CHA Foundation Board Chair to insure Foundation Board stewardship and development. Support the CHA Foundation Board as it tightens its focus on philanthropy and activating community support.

Develop fundraising strategies supporting CHA’s institutional priorities. This includes creating and maintaining a compelling case for support which translates the organization’s vision to inspire donors, volunteers, physicians, staff, and the greater community to new and higher levels of philanthropy.

Design, implement and oversee a comprehensive, proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing high net worth and institutional relationships and building new strategic partnerships. 

Build and cultivate a robust portfolio of current and prospective donors. Work with board members, physicians, volunteers, and other members of the community to help identify potential donors and determine and implement cultivation plans. 

Maintain a strong development infrastructure, including staff, systems, data, policies, and procedures.

Track and report regular progress against strategic goals, including donor engagement and stewardship touchpoints, revenue and pipeline management details.

Work effectively and collaboratively with the CFO and marketing team to ensure development activities are well coordinated and supportive of CHA priorities.

Identify emerging trends and opportunities in philanthropy that are relevant to the mission and programs of CHA.

 

Key Qualifications

At least ten years as an executive in a non profit or hospital/healthcare organization. Familiarity with public, safety-net, or academic organizations preferred. 

Minimum of seven years of fundraising experience, including fundraising role within major capital campaigns, within an academic/research hospital or in higher education.

Broad knowledge of all functional areas of fundraising (major, planned, and annual giving; corporate and foundation giving; communications/marketing; research; stewardship; development operations)

Proactive development leader with an established track record of increasing philanthropic revenue from diverse constituencies, particularly in the major, transformative and planned giving space. 

Experience in the development and implementation of a broad-based fundraising program including personally opening doors, cultivation, and successfully closing major gifts.

Progressive experience in successful development programs and knowledge of “best practices” in development.

Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences. 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Team player committed to developing and working within a collaborative environment and to ensuring the highest customer service orientation.

A management style that is visible, accountable, analytical and service focused. Should be both a strategic thinker and doer with a style which is self-directed and results-oriented with an approachable and compassionate demeanor.

Demonstrated experience in working and collaborating with municipal leaders and legislative leaders.

Established presence and reputation within CHA’s service communities is highly desirable. Familiarity with Cambridge Health Alliance’s primary service area is preferred.
