Job Description Summary

The Chief Engineer will supervise the activities of site maintenance personnel and outside contractors to liaison with the client, property management and outside vendors ensuring that facility maintenance services are provided. The Chief Engineer reports to the Facility Manager and will assist as requested.

Responsible for the overall operation of both soft and hard services within the facilities. These duties include but are not limited to the installation, repair and maintenance of the facility equipment. The oversight and upkeep of but not limited to: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Electronic Equipment, and general maintenance. Execution and Management of Janitorial and recycling services operations.

Responsible for the implementation and documentation of site safety plans and all Cushman and Wakefield operational standards and guidelines as well as site specific standards, policies and procedures relating to the engineering department. These activities align with management agreements, client requirements and Cushman & Wakefield mission, principles and expertise to grow a unified, engaged and responsible corporate culture that leverages best practices within the Facility Management fields.

Job Description

Building Management 

Have the capability to manage CMMS (Corrigo) including, but not limited to, scheduling work orders, timecards, preventive maintenance, projects, and inspections.  Must be able to research items and provide recommendations as required. 

Plan and implement predictive and preventive maintenance program and review / monitor effectiveness to maximize efficiency and minimize maintenance and energy costs including inspections/repairs as mandated by local municipalities and per building/client requirements on Critical Systems, HVAC, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Electronic Equipment, UPS and Generator Systems. 

Must show in-depth knowledge of all aspects of building systems and operations 

Leadership 

Supervise a team of facilities onsite staff to provide high quality day-to-day management of the portfolio.  Evaluate staff performance; identify staff strengths/weaknesses and implement training as required 

Ability to analyse and solve problems, capable of functioning well under stress and during emergencies. Rapid response, investigation and management of emergency situations and air quality complaints  

Support multiple facilities as directed by the Sr. Facilities Manager. 

Execute and manage facilities management projects / initiatives as assigned by the client  

Manage building / facilities management contracts to ensure that the service delivery and contractual obligations are delivered and executed in a manner that fosters and achieves customer satisfaction 

Interface closely with the client and customers to understand requirements and provide effective solutions and recommendations 

Liaise with site landlord/property manager; demonstrate familiarity with lease terms to ensure landlord responsibilities are completed promptly and at no cost to client 

Implement initiatives to ensure that best practices are achieved in every aspect of service delivery, with focus on client satisfaction, cost, and quality. This includes daily walk-through of the site with strong visibility and interaction with the local client base 

Support Sustainability and Energy Initiatives 

Strong working knowledge and management of Operating Budget, Maintenance Plan and Assignments.  Identify and recommend opportunities for cost savings opportunities  

Safety 

Ensure compliance with local laws and building codes pertaining to building operations and safety 

Perform safety / routine inspection on general facilities of the client office to ensure office facilities and equipment are operating at optimum level. Work closely with the Client Employee Health and Safety operation 

Manage compliance of regulations and permits, correct any violations and file with appropriate agencies 

Documentation 

Manage and mentor employees, effectively manage days off and overtime, manage HR processes related to direct reports (performance management, development, coaching, feedback, etc.) 

Initiate or respond to work orders, assign staff as applicable, follow-up and verify completion of work, and expedite/approve completed work 

Assist with handling service calls, evaluate requests and dispatch appropriate contractors.  Complete working knowledge of creating, closing and tracking work requests 

Prepare specifications and bidding documents for scheduled Service Contracts such as HVAC maintenance, electrical, Fire/Life Safety Systems, etc. 

Prepare request for proposal (RFP), technical specification, and scope of work for contract renewal and tender of facility management services 

Prepare required reports including facilities management report and others  

Perform all other Duties as assigned by Management 

Research and recommend services, supplies and resources as requested 

Qualifications & Requirements 

Experience in building, warehouse, or industrial environments maintenance and management is required 

Proven ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously 

Exemplary customer service skills with a keen focus on client relations 

Strong leadership, interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to build strong teams from diverse backgrounds 

Minimum six (6) years of working experience in facility/property management 

Experience in managing term contractors and minor project works 

Excellent analytical skills with problem solving aptitude 

PC literacy – Knowledge of spreadsheets, database, scheduling programs, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Work Order System, BMS 

Good communication skills, both written and verbal 

24/7 On-call, overtime as required

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications.


The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.


The compensation for the position is: $16.00 - $50.48
