Leidos has an opening in our Albuquerque, NM office for a Chief Engineer with experience in the development, deployment, operation, and sustainment of weapon systems for the Department of Defense. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership to a team of engineers and scientists in a research and development environment. The candidate will guide the team to integrate directed energy (DE) technologies into fully capable weapon systems for the United States Air Force and other customers.
Primary Responsibilities
Ensure success of engineering development programs by providing senior technical leadership and product vision in the development of system architectures; trade studies; issue prevention, identification, and resolution.Collaborate with other senior leaders in the organization to implement best practices and continuous improvement activities.Serve as the principal engineering subject matter expert interfacing with senior customer counterparts, internal engineering leadership, executives, program managers, and partners to represent the program, make recommendations, and develop executable strategies to achieve program objectives within cost and schedule constraints.Provide subject matter expertise in weapon systems design, integration, testing, and operations.Support development of systems engineering requirements of components, subsystems, and systems.Exercise leadership through inclusion, collaboration, and mentorship of the technical workforce.Contribute to rigorous and successful program execution including project planning and coordination, resource planning and task allocations, schedule development and management, project risk management, project financial management, project issue management, project change management, project monitoring and reporting, and planning and management of project deliverablesSupport business development through influencing technology and product roadmaps, proposal writing, shaping, and engaging with business development and capture teamsEngage with major subcontractors and partners on technical matters to ensure product deliverablesMonitor the functional and product baselines and manages changes from the customer. For out of scope requests, supports project manager in identifying cost/schedule impacts.Undertake the review and approval of project and technical documentation as authorizedProduce timely project and support deliverables including project and technical documentation of high quality that is clear and concise with content that is sufficient to meet both project and future support needs while complying with both company and customer requirements Follow company procedures and customer requirements and use a systems engineering approach and techniques to plan and execute engineering activities to meet cost, quality and schedule objectivesLead and champion the development of new project management and design approaches, techniques and technologies as well as process and quality improvements to support continual improvementParticipates in the development of new or expansion of existing business opportunities.Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.Performs other duties as assigned.Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established policies, operating procedures and practices.Basic Qualifications
Active Secret DoD clearance(U.S. Citizenship required) BS in Engineering, Science, or Technology or related technical area and 15+ years of total experience including the training, qualifications, experience, and clearances to accomplish all tasks identified aboveMust have proven track record of critical thinking and developing creative problem and hard problem solutions with a focus on outcome-based delivery of meaningful innovations. Excellent written and spoken communication skillsExperience identifying, developing, and implementing engineering change solutions with new technology and solutions on a large enterprise/national scaleExperience with large programs, and performing technology assessments, trade studies, analysis of alternatives, and creating capability roadmapsExperience with Network Operation Center, Defensive Cyber Operations, and Data Center operational processesA working knowledge of data analytics, algorithms, and modeling to solve analytically complex operational challengesDemonstrated ability to work in a customer environment collaboratively through constraints to meet mission milestonesExcellent written and oral communications skills and management to include presentation and experience discussing technology at large government agency CIO/CTO executive levelSelf-motivated and focused on delivering outcomes with the ability to work independently and in teamsExperience leading the development of solutions for proposals, writing white papers, RFI responsesPreferred Qualifications
