Job Description
The appointment will be made from the designated group in line with the Employment Equity Plan of Old Mutual South Africa and the specific business unit in question.
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join the Social Investment Cluster. This pivotal role is designed for a visionary financial leader who will be responsible for a significant business unit, function or segment. The successful incumbent needs to be passionate about defining and implementing financial strategy and ensuring the ongoing financial soundness and profitability of the business unit, function or segment. The CFO will be instrumental in achieving results through other managers and their teams, over periods of 1 to 2 years.
Key Outputs
Contributes to and implements financial strategy.Translates strategy into business plan.Monitors financial processes and performance for business unit/segment.Accountable for preparation of financial reports and record keeping for business unit/segment.Drives commercial aspects of business.Ensures best financial operating practice and IAS compliance within a unit.Responsible for audit liaison as well as tax, legislative & statutory requirements.Influences business on corrective actions required on issues raised by financial accountant.Could include consolidation of accounts.Looks for opportunities to minimise tax and improve the organisation's position.Has responsibility for significant business unit, function or segment.Manage and coordinate the company's financial function, including general accounting, cost management, budgeting, and payroll, in accordance with corporate policies and procedures to meet the company’s business requirements. This is the top finance position for a specific location, but it is governed by policies and frameworks established by the larger corporation.ResponsibilitiesFinancial Policies, Guidelines, and ProtocolsLead and coordinate the development and delivery of financial policies, guidelines, and protocols across the business to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice.
Financial Management and ControlTake responsibility for developing and delivering the organization's financial management and/or control systems.
Financial ModelingUndertake strategic and tactical financial analysis, modeling, and evaluation to support business leaders in their decision-making.
Data Collection and AnalysisMake authoritative recommendations that have a significant impact on the business over the short and long term. Recommendations could be technical or professional in nature.
Organizational Risk ManagementTake responsibility for developing and delivering the organization's risk management and/or risk control policies and procedures.
Financial Information SystemsOwn the development of financial systems for the company or group. Own the governance of finance systems to ensure they adhere to group accounting and statutory rules.
Functional Strategy FormationLead the development and implementation of strategy for a significant area of responsibility, anticipating complex issues, challenges, and opportunities and ensuring integration with wider corporate strategy.
Information and Business AdviceProvide authoritative specialist advice to the leadership team of a small or nationally based organization or subsidiary to guide the implementation of policy and the design and implementation of projects and change initiatives.
Leadership and DirectionIdentify and communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the business area or department; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit to these tenets and do extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
Performance ManagementManage and report on the performance of the function/business area; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold individuals accountable for achieving them; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.
Organizational Capability BuildingIdentify the capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging business needs of a significant business area. Evaluate current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritize development activities. Motivate others to develop their capabilities and fulfill their personal potential. Build capabilities elsewhere in the organization through mentoring and other informal methods.
BudgetingTake responsibility for setting and managing area budgets so they align with organizational strategy.
