Chief Information Officer

Chief Information Officer (CIO) 

Position Summary

Reporting to the CFO, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) will lead our company's IT strategy, driving innovation and competitive advantage through technology. This role requires experience with navigating a complex environment where both legacy home-grown systems co-exist with newer technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Collaborate with all executive stakeholders (E-Commerce, HR, Finance, Store/DC/Call Center Operations, Merchandising) to establish and implement IT roadmaps that promote revenue generation, operational efficiency and compliance Balance maintenance of critical legacy systems with driving innovation  Design, scope, socialize, prioritize and execute a thoughtful IT Modernization strategy.  This would incorporate all facets of IT organization, infrastructure, security and applications

Digital Transformation

Lead the transition from mainframe to cloud technologies, decreasing our reliance on a narrowing labor market while capitalizing on enhanced capabilities Enhance data analytics capabilities to improve decision-making across the organization Explore AI/ML solutions to optimize inventory management, supply chain, and customer insights

Team Leadership 

Leading a group of approximately 80 team members, the CIO will have direct leadership of 4 technical leaders and 2 administrative team members Develop talent acquisition and retention strategies to build a team capable of supporting both legacy and modern systems Foster a culture of innovation, goal setting, accountability, agility, and continuous learning 

Security and Compliance

Along with the CISO, continuous evaluation of vulnerabilities and identification of remediation and enhancements to protect the company  Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations (e.g., PCI, CCPA) Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans

Vendor and Stakeholder Management

Manage relationships with technology vendors Communicate IT strategy and progress to the board of directors and other key stakeholders

Qualifications

Experience

15+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior executive role Proven track record of successful large-scale application implementations and technology transformations, preferably in retail or a related industry Experience managing both mainframe and cloud-based systems Strong background in controls, change management, data analytics, AI/ML implementation, and cybersecurity

Technical Skills

Deep understanding of the IBM mainframe technologies (e.g., COBOL, CICS, DB2) and third party software tools (e.g, BMC, ASG) Deep understanding of IBM mid-range and Microsoft Intel platforms Expertise in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) Knowledge of progressive development methodologies (e.g., Agile, DevOps) Familiarity with retail-specific technologies (e.g., POS and Omni Channel systems, inventory management, supply chain software)

Certifications (Preferred)

Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) Certified Chief Information Officer (CCIO)  TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Certified) ITIL v4 Foundation or higher Relevant cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CRISC, CISSP, CISM)

Soft Skills

Exceptional leadership and change management abilities Strong communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment

Industry Knowledge

Deep understanding of retail industry dynamics and inherent challenges Familiarity with omni-channel retail strategies and technologies Knowledge of retail-specific regulations and compliance requirements

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

The successful candidate will be measured on the following KPIs:

Successful migration of critical systems to the cloud or other optimized platforms while retiring existing technology (measured by percentage of systems migrated and adherence to timeline and budget) Improvement in system performance and reliability (e.g., reduced downtime, improved response times) Cost savings achieved through infrastructure optimization Enhancement of customer experience through technology innovations Improvements in cybersecurity posture and reduction in security incidents Employee satisfaction and retention rates within the IT team
