Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel Decatur is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief Metallurgist. This position is responsible for providing leadership for the Quality Department and for developing an effective strategy incorporating all departments to achieve the quality goals of the division through a team-oriented and cooperative approach. Acting as a technical resource, this position will be directly involved in new product development, evaluating, and resolving customer claims, review of product inquiries, failure analysis, coordinating continuous improvement projects, and support for the production teams. This position oversees technical service and is a main point of contact for customers, providing technical support, seeking new business opportunities, and conducting educational programs. The Chief Metallurgist is a safety and environmental advocate and will help to add value to the safety and environmental culture of the division. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in metallurgy, materials science engineering or technical degree Preferred Qualifications: Five years of steel industry experience Nucor supervisory or leadership experience Experience in steelmaking process optimization and new product development. Masters in Metallurgy
