Position Summary

This role functions as a clinical, educational and administrative resource to nursing personnel and oversees overall patient care delivery and management. In collaboration with an attending physician, is responsible for the coordination and direct care of patients within specialty area(s) and clinical protocols as needed. This role also works collaboratively with multidisciplinary health care teams to optimize team performance and standards of care, is responsible for providing patient education and ensures compliance with clinical/nursing policies & procedures.  

Job Responsibilities Develops short- and long-term development and operational goals. Monitors outcomes and revises plans as necessary. Recruits for and manages the orientation of new staff. Develops and provides in-service training to nursing staff on new nursing techniques, protocols, procedures, or new equipment. Reviews and implements necessary nursing competencies. Ensures that nursing staff’s licensure and certifications are maintained and current as required by regulatory agencies. Implements and supports patient-care models that ensure that staff is working at the top of their licensures. Monitors levels of quality of service as measured by satisfaction surveys, customer comments and direct observation. Recommends strategies that are responsive to quality of service needs. Ensures practice compliance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements. Collaborates with the Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) Physician Leader in managing all clinical quality and safety issues and initiatives. Monitors infection control measures within the practice. Implements and evaluates optimization strategies to ensure adequate staffing for scheduled patients and same-day or emergent cases. Participates in risk management as they relate to the clinical space and activities. Maintains familiarity with assigned hospital’s Medical Staff Bylaws/Rules and Regulations and with the Delineation of Privilege (“DoP”) application form and available privileges staff. Provides recommendations for DoP requests that are in alignment with state regulatory and Weill Cornell Medicine’s Scope of Practice. Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between visits. Maintains and reviews patient records. Posts tests and examination results. Provides in-office, patient care services. Duties may include obtaining patient histories, vital signs, venipuncture, specimen collection, administering vaccines/medications and educating patients. Assists with clinical responsibilities during general outpatient / inpatient clinic sessions under the supervision of an attending physician. Writes prescription and orders; triages and evaluates urgent patient issues. Responsible for standard clinical care responsibilities that fall under the nurse practitioner role and scope of practice. Education Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing Experience

Extensive clinical-practice experience (approximately 6 years).

Clinical leadership experience in an acute care setting with evidence of strong leadership potential.

Experience in change management and process improvement; exposure to process- improvement techniques (e.g. Lean/Six Sigma) are a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). A team oriented individual that works collaboratively to achieve team goals. Ability to lead by example and create a culture that embraces diversity and inclusion. Licenses and Certifications NYS Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and current NP registration NYS Registered Professional Nurse license and signed current RN registration. Applicable National Board Certification (such as ANCC, PNCB, etc).
