Now hiring a Chief of Security at GADSDEN CORRECTIONAL FACILITY
Position Summary:
Reports to the deputy warden operations. Directly supervises the shift lieutenants. Responsible for the overall management of security functions in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) directives.
Essential Functions:
1. Plan, coordinate and direct the security functions for the facility.
2. Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance and implement organizational and personnel changes as approved by the deputy warden and coordinated with the manager, human resources prior to implementation.
3. Assist the deputy warden in the preparation of facility budget; monitor and control expenditures.
4. Develop and implement new and revised policies, procedures and programs affecting security.
5. Direct procedures and practices relating to the training and security of inmates and staff; maintain constant vigilance of staff assignments to ensure adherence to policies, rules and regulations.
6. Supervise staff assignments for security functions.
7. Review report preparation for hearings and permanent records of inmates and monitor their
rehabilitative prospects.
8. Assist in staff selection process, ensuring compliance with applicable local and federal regulations and MTC directives.
9. Supervise and provide custody and security of offenders including observing actions of offenders performing “pat” and “strip” searches of offenders and restraining and securing sometimes assaultive offenders.
10. Responds to emergencies including climbing stairs, steps, and ladders while searching for escaped offenders, hearing calls for and calling for help, giving first aid at the emergency site, carrying an injured or unconscious offender or employee various distances to safety up or down stairs, steps, and ladders; and use force and deadly force to include the use of chemical agents and firearms in compliance with company policies and agency regulations.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in correctional management, criminal justice, public/business administration, education, counseling or other related field, and five (5) years related experience, three (3) of which must be in supervisory capacity are required. Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements, if approved by regional vice president, corrections. Valid driver’s license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
