A Day in the Life Video

 

 

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Responsible to oversee the operation and maintenance of all stationary engineering equipment and systems in the facility to minimize downtime and therefore support achievement of factory safety, quality, production, and cost goals.

Provide leadership and technical expertise to ensure that equipment operates safely and economically and within established limits by monitoring attached meters, gauges, and computerized controls.

Supervise the safe operation and maintenance of boilers and steam systems; heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems; building automation systems; compressed air systems; nitrogen pumps, piping and compressed gas systems; refrigeration systems; plant fire systems and sprinklers; and electrical systems and numerous other physical plant functions.

Oversee routine maintenance, such as repairing and replacing pumps, motors, and other operating equipment, lubricating moving parts, replacing filters, and removing soot and corrosion that can reduce operating efficiency.

Communicate with the Goodyear Facilities Manager, Engineering Manager, Goodyear maintenance team members, co-workers, and business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.

Must possess excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of functions simultaneously.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Powerhouse

Comply with all requirements of the Operating Engineers Act. Comply with all requirements of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Acts in accordance with Provincial (TSSA) legislation. Responsible for ensuring powerhouse performance necessary to provide plant operating requirements and demands. Maintain plant required provincial certifications, to act as Chief Operating Engineer. Responsible for scheduling and managing all shift operating engineers to provide for powerhouse efficient and effective operations. Act as a safety officer to ensure that all operating engineers carry out their work in a safe and effective manner. Oversee all ISO-9000 and quality system (QS) documentation of powerhouse operations and equipment. Accept and assume responsibility for being on a 24-hour on-call basis for boiler emergencies. Oversee maintenance of storeroom inventory required to maintain reliable boiler operations. Monitor equipment key performance indicator trends and report gaps to goal to the Goodyear Facilities Manager promptly. Co-ordinate and manage weekly utilities readings to monitor performance and send to the Goodyear Facility Manager.

 

Compressed Air System

Ensure proper start up and shut down off all compressors and associated equipment to meet all plant requirements. Oversee maintenance and all documentation in accordance with IAFT 16949 and QS standards. Monitor compressed air system to ensure safe and efficient operations. Ensure proper response time by Shift Engineers to all compresses air alarms and/or failures. Oversee maintenance and storeroom inventory required to maintain reliable compressed air quality and system operation. Monitor equipment key performance indicator trends and report gaps to goal to the Goodyear Facilities Manager promptly.

 

Nitrogen Distribution Systems

Oversee monitoring and reporting of nitrogen system performance or any deficiency to the Goodyear Facility Manager. Ensure safe and proper operation, distribution of nitrogen system from the powerhouse to plant associated equipment. Ensure Shift Engineers respond to all alarm conditions and provide corrective plans and/or actions. Oversee the generation of all work orders in accordance with ISO standards. Oversee maintenance of storeroom inventory required to maintain reliable nitrogen system operations. Monitor equipment key performance indicator trends and report gaps to goal to the Goodyear Facilities Manager promptly.

 

Plant Fire Monitoring & Support Equipment

Ensure safe operation and testing of all plant fire equipment.

Oversee and co-ordinate testing, inspections of the Simplex fire panel.

Ensure regular testing of all diesel fire pumps and electrical generators.

Supervise and schedule regular maintenance and inspections of diesel pumps and electrical generators.

Assist risk management and plant insurance personnel to complete yearly inspections on all plant fire support equipment, riser, etc.

Oversee storeroom inventory to support and maintain reliable fire system operations.

 

H.V.A.C. Equipment Operation & Support

Supervise Shift Engineers in the proper operation of all HVAC equipment required to support the plant. Supervise HVAC personnel in the proper operation of all HVAC equipment required to support the plant. Oversee generation of work orders as required for all IATF 16949 and QS standards and documentation. Oversee and maintain storeroom inventory to properly respond and maintain HVAC equipment and plant requirements. Ensure HVAC personnel respond and/or take corrective action for all plant alarms or concerns that may impact plant production. Monitor equipment key performance indicator trends and report gaps to goal to the Goodyear Facilities Manager promptly.

 

Environmental

Ensure the plant meets all environmental laws and regulations by staying current with changes and implementing necessary adjustments. Regularly measure and report on air and water emissions, ensuring they remain within permissible limits. Develop and oversee waste management programs, including recycling initiatives and proper disposal of hazardous materials. Promote and implement energy-efficient practices and water conservation measures to reduce the plant's environmental footprint. Conduct training sessions for employees on environmental best practices and sustainability efforts. Perform routine audits to assess compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.

 

Additional Responsibilities

Scheduling of all Operating Engineers, Controls Technicians and HVAC personnel to ensure all plant concerns and shifts are covered. Ensure all plant safety policies are carried out and documented in accordance with Goodyear's procedures. Report any concerns or deficiencies that may introduce risk to safety, health, environment, compliance, and productivity to the Goodyear Facility Manager. The ability to manage shutdown activities on scheduled statutory holidays is required to complete preventative maintenance and projects.

 

 

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

Required:  1st Class Operating Engineer Certification Required:  3-5 years of experience as 1st class
