Chief Operations Officer

Position Summary:

Directs, administers and coordinates the activities of the hospital in support of policies, goals and objectives established by the Chief Executive Officer and the Governing Body by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers. Directs and supports performance improvement and C QI activities.

 Duties:

 

Guides and directs management in the development and promotion of new and existing hospital services.Directs the preparation of short term and long range plans and budgets based on broad corporate goals and growth objectives.Maintains a sound plan of corporate organization establishing policies to insure adequate management development and to provide for capable management succession.Develops and installs procedures and controls to promote communication and adequate information flow.Establishes operating policies consistent with the Chief Executive Officer’s broad policies and objectives and ensuring their execution.Evaluates the results of overall operations regularly and systematically and reporting these results to the Chief Executive Officer.Manages subordinate department managers who supervise staff members in multiple departments.Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.Ensures the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the subordinate units/departments.Collaborates with Executive, Senior Leadership and Leadership teams in the development of and supports performance improvement activities for the facility.Ensures that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal regulations, TJC standards and laws governing healthcare operations.Maintains an environment of collaboration and cooperation among hospital departments.Maintains open lines of communication with subordinate departments.Is responsible for interviewing, hiring, assigning and directing work, counseling, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining personnel.Maintains communication with the medical staff; attends medical staff committee meetings including the Medical Executive Committee.Functions as Chief Executive Officer (C EO) in the absence of the C EO.Oversees Master Planning and construction projects.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education 

Master's degree in related health care field--Education and experience equivalent to a master's degree may be considered.

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications 

Five years recent experience in similar position in acute healthcare setting.Highly developed organizational skills.Demonstrates familiarity with Microsoft Office Software, as well as Outlook.Demonstrated expertise in hospital operational and/or fiscal managementAbility to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Must be able to work in a union environment.
