**Statement**
The University of North Carolina (UNC) Rex Cancer Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, is seeking a full-time Chief Medical Physicist to lead the UNC-Rex Physics and Dosimetry groups at five sites in the vicinity of the Raleigh, NC area. UNC-Rex Cancer Center is a member of the UNC Health Care system, which includes Health Care entities across North Carolina.
**Minimum Qualifications**
The successful candidate for this position must have the following qualifications: (1) an MS or PhD in Medical Physics or related field; (2) ABR/ABMP board certification in Radiation Therapy Physics; and (3) five or more years of Medical Physics experience. Preference is for a candidate with PhD.
**Department Marketing Statement**
UNC-Rex Cancer Center comprises five hospitals and clinics in the vicinity of the Raleigh area, staffed by 8 Radiation Oncologists, 6 Medical Physicists (including the Chief Medical Physicist), and 8 Dosimetrists. UNC-Rex Cancer Center is equipped with 5 Elekta linear accelerators, 2 Varian linear accelerators, a Varian HDR unit, and 4 Siemens/1 GE CT-simulators. Clinical treatment planning takes place on Raystation TPS; MIM is used for image analysis and manipulation; Mosaiq used for EMR and record verification. Ancillary systems include VisionRT and Exactrac Brain Lab.
**Specific Job Related Duties**
The ideal candidate for this position is expected to work in close alignment with the Chief of Medical Physics at UNC’s North Carolina Cancer Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC, who oversees Medical Physics for the UNC Health Care system. The ideal candidate will work with the Chief of Medical Physics at UNC’s North Carolina Cancer Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC, to ensure that processes, policies and procedures are in compliance with a system standard.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1) Guide and lead the UNC-Rex dosimetry and physics staff.
2) Attend to and oversee proper staffing in the group including position justification, hiring, and training.
3) Perform annual performance reviews of the physics and dosimetry staff.
4) Contribute to problem solving of clinical issues that arise.
5) Attend SRS/SBRT and HDR procedures as the physicist of record to assure proper treatment.
6) Oversee comprehensive quality assurance program for equipment and clinical processes.
7) Oversee and guide the development and documentation of performance specifications, procedures testing and frequency of all therapy equipment.
8) Oversee and develop new systems and processes.
9) Lead and contribute to department quality assurance initiatives.
10) Oversee diagnostic physics contractors working in the radiation therapy departments.
11) Attend UNC-Rex hospital Radiation Safety Committee meetings.
12) Maintain compliance of NRC and state rules and regulations as well as adhere to ACRO and AAPM Task Group guidelines.
13) Work with other physicists and clinicians in the UNC system to determine future technology strategies.
14) Meet routinely with UNC-Rex Hospital leadership to discuss current issues and challenges.
15) Attend multiple periodic cancer-related accreditation meetings.

**Licensure/Certification Requirements:**
● ABR ; BCLS;or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP)
**Professional Experience Requirements:**
● A minimum of 5 years experience or Masters in Physics with a minimum of 10 years experience. Prefer candidate with leadership experience within Physics group settings.
**Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:**
● Language Skills: Ability to read analyze, and interpret professional journals, clinical information, technical procedures, and complex documents. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and business correspondence. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication. Ability to respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, physicians, family members and other Rex staff. Mathematical Skills: Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advance calculus, modern algebra, modern physics, and advanced statistical theory. Computer literacy and programming. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply the principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
