Job Overview

This position provides developmentally appropriate care and early education to children of Staff, Faculty, and Students of the University by:

Creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, nurturing, and stimulating environment for childrenConducting programs and activities that implement the emergent curriculum of the classroom.Developing and maintaining mutually supportive relationships with individual parents that enable both parents and teachers to meet each child’s individual needs,Monitoring and supporting each child’s individual development.Maintaining overall responsibility for classroom functioning.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

This position reports to the Director of Hoya Kids Learning Center. All child care center staff and Georgetown University student assistants work with this position and report to the Director. This position also partners with and interacts frequently with Faculty, Staff and students of the University, whose children they are caring for during the day.

This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.  Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation. Requirements and Qualifications

Associate’s degree in ECE or related field plus 1 year of supervised experience in a licensed child development center or the equivalent in education and experience per OSSE requirements.  Must have strong relationship and communication skills. Proficient knowledge and use of technology (email, calendar, internet, PowerPoint, google docs) required.  Experience working in a high quality early childhood program. Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification are desired, and required within 30 days of employment.

Lifting of children and materials up to 40 lbs is required. Pushing a manually operated buggy containing up to 6 children. Sight and sound supervision is required within classrooms, playgrounds, and outdoor (campus walks).  Walking on campus is required.  Lifting of boxes and moving furniture is required.  Must have ability to be active with children (music and movement activities), sit on floor, get on child’s level (by stooping, squatting, or bending).  Regular exposure to communicable illnesses, and bodily fluids.

Numerous background checks and drug/alcohol testing – required; Annual physical and bi-annual TB test – required; COVID vaccination – required; Annual training (21 clock hours) – required

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in ECE.  Knowledge and application of Emergent Curriculum. Experience documenting children’s growth and development.  Ability to work well in a team as well as independently, communicate effectively and respectfully to children, families and colleagues, build positive relationships with all members of the GU community, demonstrate initiative to solve problems creatively, and show flexibility and open mindedness.

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$39,930.00 - $59,694.78

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
