**Job Summary**
Provides routine child care office support. Provides support and assists with the overall administration and development of child care center operation.
**Responsibilities**
**Essential Functions**
1. Reviews and processes child care applications and related forms; reviews them for accuracy and completeness; ensures compliance with University and department policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations. Efficiency and speed of processing is a must.
2. Receives, greets and directs visitors to the appropriate person or center. May provide child care center orientation and child development information for parents. May be asked to work with diaper bank.
3. Answers telephones, provides assistance, and directs families to the correct person or office. Returns calls and emails in a timely manner.
4. Processes and answers parent questions in a timely manner, through phone or email.
5. Creates and maintains child files, service agreements, schedules, etc, and helps centers access information.
6. Schedules appointments with parents and arranges for tours and orientation meetings
7. Answers questions about the organization and associated activities.
8. A large portion of the work is completed in Microsoft Word, Excel, EZ Care, and other browser programs, therefore, excellent computer skills are a must.
9. Help out in classrooms as needed/instructed.

**Problem solving**
The incumbents in the is position are expected to be familiar with the department’s policies and procedures and are required to have a working knowledge of University and department organizations and procedures in order to answer and assist staff and visitors.
**Department specific qualifications**
+ One year of full-time child care experience or equivalency (HeadStart, preschool or child care licensing, etc.)
+
* Must be at least 21 years old
+ Must demonstrate effective communication with professionals, parents and children
+ Must demonstrate an ability to work independently but show a willingness to take direction from the supervisor
+ Must be warm, energetic and enjoy working with families and young children (6 weeks to 5 years.) and be willing to help out in classrooms as needed.
+ Must pass a BCI and fingerprint background check.
+ Must be willing to obtain first aid training
+ Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office and management software
+ Must meet physical characteristics needed for the performance of all job duties (with or without the use of aids):
+ Sufficient vision to read small printed material as well as long distances across playgrounds and classrooms for child supervision.
+ Sufficient hearing to hear normal and telephone conversation
+ Ability to speak in an understandable manner.
+ Tone with sufficient volume to be heard in an office and/or a busy classroom environment.
+ Lift small children (up to 50 lbs.)
+ Carry small children in arms for short distances.
+ Move about on hands and knees and sit on the floor with children.
+ Exhibits physical stamina necessary for daily interaction with young children (walking, kneeling, sitting on floor, lifting up to 50 lbs., etc.)
+ Ability to sit at computer and perform repetitive motions.
+ Physical dexterity to use a pen or pencil in a legible format, operate a computer keyboard, and other devices.
**Comments**
Work environment and level of frequency typically required nearly continuously: office environment, occasional: early childhood classroom environment or early childhood kitchen.
**Minimum Qualifications**
High school diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four years full time secretarial experience or equivalency, word processing and spreadsheet software skills and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
Knowledge of business writing preferred.

Child Development Associate ( CDA ), Associates, or Bachelor’s or equivalent in early childhood education preferred and more than the minimum two year child care center experience. National Association for the Education of Young Children ( NAEYC ) and Department of Health Child Care Licensing rules and regulations experience preferred.
