Completion of a Child Life Specialist internship required

Job Summary:

Collaborates with the health care team to provide social, emotional, and developmental support during a pediatric patient's illness and hospitalization.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides educational preparation to patients and families prior to potential anxiety provoking tests, procedures, or events through the use of explanation, hands on materials, and medical play.Supplies a caring and secure atmosphere for patients and their families in pediatrics.Collaborates with the health care team to plan appropriate interventions.Develops and/or participates in outreach and educational activities to teach families, staff, and the community about issues and services related to ill and hospitalized children.Acts as a resource for families and the health care team regarding child development including behavior modification and compliance issues.Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Child Life Human Development or related field

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequent reaching, sitting, standing and walking.Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.Frequent keyboard use/data entry.Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, twisting and gripping.Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.Occasional use of vision to identify and distinguish colors.Occasional driving.Rare repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements and squatting.
