Job Description
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Community Access and Eligibility Division, is seeking a Support Recovery Supervisor to join our team to help Iowa families successfully navigate through the child support process. As part of our team, you will play a crucial role in establishing, enforcing, and monitoring child support and medical support orders, as well as encouraging families to provide financial and emotional support for their children, ensuring the well-being of children across the state.
Under the general supervision of the Regional Collections Administrator, the Child Support Recovery Supervisor is responsible for overseeing complex case management. Leading, planning, and supervising subordinate staff and ensuring the office performance goals, and organizational goals are met. The supervisor establishes and reinforces a work environment that encourages employee initiative, decision-making, and learning. This position requires a highly motivated, ethical, organized, and detailed individual with strong leadership skills, who is results-focused with a strong commitment to customer service and relationship building.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with:
•Applying the principles of supervision including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, delegating work, training, disciplining, reviewing and evaluating work.
•Read, comprehend, explain and apply complex laws, policies, rules and regulations and applicable federal code sections of the Child Support Services program verbally and in writing.
•Comprehend and adhere to the confidentiality provisions stated in the Code of Iowa.
•Prioritize tasks, time and resources to meet established performance goals and deadlines.
•Plan, organize, direct, monitor and control the work of subordinates.
•Respond appropriately to supervision and guidance.
•Organize and present information in a clear and concise manner utilizing excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Recognize, define and resolve complex problems.
•Manage and resolve conflicts, confrontations and disagreements in a positive and constructive manner to minimize negative personal impact. Adjust and adapt to work pressures, changes or difficult situations impacting people or groups without unusual stress reactions.
•Manage and coordinate people and resources. Encourage and facilitate cooperation, trust, pride, group identity, and teamwork.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook; and the ability to learn and use other complex data base systems.
•Comprehend mathematical calculations used within the Child Support program, such as child support guidelines .

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
+ A total of six years of education and/or full-time experience related to child support recovery, public assistance (income maintenance), program development, program operations, or supervisory, investigative, or specialized technical support work, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
+ Five years of full-time technical, administrative, or professional level work experience related to the recovery of child support or in a public assistance (income maintenance) program.
+ Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes three years of full-time work as a Child Support Recovery Officer.
