Please provide a well-considered cover letter and resume for council leadership review for the position of City Council Policy Advisor. + The City Council Policy Advisor provides policy and fiscal analysis to the council and its individual members. + In this role you will collaborate closely with the mayor’s office, city staff and community stakeholders, to research and bring forward innovative ideas and recommendations for consideration by council members. + This position works under general direction and serves At-Will to the council president. Essential Functions Provides coordination between the Office of City Council, Mayor’s Office, city departments, city legal counsel and external partners. Conducts research and analyzes issues before council impacting the City of Boise and the surrounding Treasure Valley area. Develops and recommends strategies for advancing key policy initiatives and advises city council members on a well-researched approach to each program. Analyzes the impact of council priorities from a policy, fiscal or legal framework in cooperation with city staff. Supports the work of the Office of City Council to effectuate council priorities, goals and projects. Identifies key partners and stakeholders to cultivate strong and strategic relationships. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with the community partners and stakeholders, mayor’s office staff, city staff and governmental agencies. Requirements Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training + Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, or a closely related field and + 3 years of related experience, or + an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Knowledge of: + local government policy, finance, procedures and land-use regulations; + research techniques as well as analyzing and interpreting data; + project management principles; + federal, state and local regulations; and + computer usage including related software. Ability to: + understand, interpret, explain and apply federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies; + research, analyze and summarize planning data; + interpret graphic information and statistical data; + establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff, elected officials and the public; + communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and + perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation. Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training + Juris doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited school. Licensing And Other Requirements + Valid state-issued driver's license.
