DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated student for our Philadelphia, PA office. The City Planning Summer Intern position will support a variety of planning initiatives for community, economic development, and transportation projects for public and private sector clients, including state agencies, counties, municipalities, and private developers.

Responsibilities:

Conducting extensive research, data collection, and analysis pertaining to multi-modal transit planning and operations in one or more of the following modes: surface transportation, public transportation, paratransit, bicycle and pedestrian, and rail freight Supporting analysis of topics related to transportation planning including land use, policy, and demographics Preparing written technical reports, plans, and studies Supporting community and stakeholder engagement activities for various planning and engineering projects, including assisting with planning and facilitating meetings, workshops, and open houses Developing and maintaining project databases Conducting field work as required Conducting basic GIS analysis, creating maps, and graphics

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Working towards or recently obtained a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in City Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, Environmental Studies, or a related field 0-3 years of related experience Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook Proficiency in GIS Software preferred Experience preparing written reports preferred 

COMPENSATION 

The approximate compensation range for this position $20 - $25 per hour. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
