Civil Engineer – Renewable Energy | VHB - Vermont and Albany New York offices

VHB is looking to provide the opportunity for a Civil Engineer to work within our growing Renewable Energy Market practice with a focus on all phases of renewables development, including solar, EV charging, and battery storage facilities. This position provides an excellent career growth opportunity working with other emerging professionals within a vibrant and expanding professional environment and entails mostly office-related work associated with completion, management, and coordination with a variety of VHB services related to project development. The position is based in South Burlington, Vermont or Albany, New York areas depending on the selected candidate. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will assist our Energy Team members located in other offices both in the New England Region and perhaps across the VHB footprint.
Responsibilities
Work within an integrated team of civil, water resource, and electrical engineers, ecologists, regulatory specialists, surveyors, transportation designers, project managers, attorneys, and landscape architects in developing site civil plans and specifications for a multitude of renewable energy infrastructure projects with a focus on sustainability and resiliencyAttend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to understand their objectives and discuss design/permitting issuesRepresent VHB at technical symposia, conferences, recruiting, and trade group learning and visibility eventsManage tasks related to project site civil and construction aspectsPreparation of design plans from schematic design through construction documentsAssist in the preparation of siting and other site civil-related permitting materialsTechnical and design Report writingConstruction and operational stormwater management designsProject construction technical supportSkills & Abilities
Self-motivated with ability to think critically and creativelyExcellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to complete plans and provide peer reviews of plans created by others and provide feedback in a constructive and mentoring approachExperience with Vermont or New York local and state permitting requirements and precedence’s for renewable or utility energy projectsCollaborate with designers and CADD technicians in the development of drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes, and client specific project specifications and requirementsAbility to manage task and deliverable assignments and time commitments within a fast-paced team of highly motivated and skilled practitioners with a focus on producing VHB-quality products.Qualifications
BS in Civil Engineering or related fieldMinimum of 3-5 years of professional site/civil engineering experience, including consulting/private sector experience5-8 years of professional site/civil engineering experience, including consulting/private sector experience preferredEIT or PE highly preferredAutoCAD Civil 3D experience requiredGIS, HydroCAD, and StormCAD experience a plusExperience preparing graphics and mapsExperience using energy-specific siting/performance tools, such as PVSyst/PVCase/HelioScope, etc. is also a plusOur best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York is $80,000-90,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
