Furthermore, this work unit exists to assure that the construction of complex projects is performed in a safe manner; is of the highest quality at the lowest possible cost; and is completed in a timely manner with the least inconvenience to the traveling public and in conformance with all contract and regulatory requirements. About the Position This position functions as the Project Manager on smaller CDOT projects and as the Assistant Project Manager on larger, more complex projects. Work duties include but are not limited to: measuring quantities of work performed for monthly pay estimates, reviewing traffic control plans, reviewing schedules, shop drawings, preparing minor contract revisions and contract modification orders, analyzing claims, supervising inspectors and materials testers, preparation of specifications and as-built drawings and training as required. The position participates in preconstruction activities, providing plan reviews and advising designers on constructability and contract administration. This includes responsibility delegated from the Chief Engineer to act as a fully authorized representative in direct charge of the construction. This also includes monitoring schedules, project expenditures, and materials and producing daily documentation. The primary goal is to ensure safe and effective construction. This position is overseen by a licensed Professional Engineer. Your Project Engineer in construction duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: + Certify that the Contractor's material, workmanship, and products are in conformance with the contract plans and specifications by managing project staff, communicating with the contractor and maintaining proper documentation. + Schedule and oversee CDOT and consultant personnel in measurements and calculations of quantities of work done. + Prepare minor contract revisions and contract modification orders, analyze claims, ensure that projects are completed safely and in conformance with the standards and plans and specifications. + Supervise and train inspectors and materials testers, preparation of specifications and as-built drawings and training as required. + Utilize complex computer software used in the civil engineering field to review construction plans. + Review plans and specifications in order to make decisions regarding layouts, alignments, standard designs, tabulations, specifications, quantities, acquisitions and clearances, etc., all incorporated in the bid document packages for, state highways. + Coordinate and interact daily with the general public, private consultants, and contractors directly involved or affected by the assigned projects. + Uses software such as Site Manager, PMWeb, LCP Tracker, B2G, Bluebeam, Word, Excel, Project, and SAP. + Function as the Project Manager on smaller CDOT projects and as such will need to lead, train and mentor less experienced personnel. + Prepare and review change order documentation required for the improvements to the project design due to differing field conditions or other mitigating factors. + Other duties as assigned.
