Civil - Roadway/Highway Transportation Engineer | Hybrid | Wethersfield, CT
VHB's Wethersfield, CT office is seeking strong Civil Engineer who is passionate about working on innovative transportation engineering projects. This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and growing team, and to tackle many of CT's municipal and state roadway, streetscape, bike facilities, and safety, projects. Experience working with state and local agencies is highly desired. There is an option for someone to work from another VHB office to support CT projects, if meeting all qualifications.
Responsibilities
VHB is seeking an individual to work within a team of highly motivated engineers to produce fully coordinated plans, specifications, and deliverables. This may include:
Conceptual and final design of roadway, highway, and multi-modal engineering solutions for a variety of transportation-related projects including development of geometric horizontal and vertical layout, grading and drainage design, and utilities layoutPreparation and review of roadway design criteria, calculations, drawings, estimates, and specificationsDevelopment of 3D modeling for conceptual roadway alignmentsTemporary traffic control developmentTypical section development and pavement designPreparation of right-of-way and easement plansCoordination with design team, clients, subconsultants, and stakeholdersConstruction support services (review of submittals and RFIs)Skills and Attributes
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and design standards of local and state agencies (CTDOT)Working knowledge of programs such as Civil3D, Open Roads, and Hydro CAD is a plusAbility to manage workload and meet deadlinesTeam oriented and motivated to lead/mentor junior staffExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsSelf-motivated, highly organized, and detail orientedQualifications
5-8 years of civil transportation design engineering experience required8-11 years of civil transportation design engineering experience preferredProficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation requiredBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field requiredMaster’s degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)PE license requiredWe are VHB!
