Civil/Structural Project Engineer

GAF is seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to provide leadership, design, and analysis for its manufacturing facilities throughout the U.S. This position requires a minimum of 15 years of experience in structural engineering & design, with exposure to project engineering leadership. Prior design experience with steel structures, building foundations, equipment foundations, pipe racks, and in-plant engineering is required. Ability to work closely with other engineering disciplines, and designers is required. Active PE registration is preferred. Experience with STAAD or RISA, Navisworks, and working knowledge of REVIT is desired. The Senior Structural Engineer will be asked to investigate and recommend design and construction solutions to support major capital projects, organize and work with external design consultants to value-engineer proposed designs, constructability, and efficiency to meet project requirements and relevant codes and standards.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Oversee and manage the structure and civil design, development, construction, and maintenance of structures and facilities in support of major process and plant upgrades and expansions.

Develop and lead/conduct infrastructure audits and analyses to review and ensure civil and structural aspects of GAF’s facilities and equipment can maintain safe, productive operations for the projected lifespan of each facility.

Provide civil and structural engineering expertise in evaluating designs to ensure adequate and value-added infrastructure for buildings, foundations, piping supports and access walkways and other systems as needed.

Develop cost estimates for materials, equipment, or labor to determine a project’s economic feasibility.

Provide technical guidance to team members.

Ensure projects progress according to schedule, budget, and specifications.

Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.

Analyze proposed projects and provide detailed cost, schedule, and justification estimates to support capital expenditures. Review with intent to value-engineer and serve as GAF's lead representative in Civil or Structural Engineering matters. 

Manage or support all aspects of civil/structural focused major projects including design construction, vendor management, cost tracking, operational interfaces and operations preparation, and startup.

Lead/participate in cross-functional corporate and plant teams investigating opportunities to improve and expand GAF’s processes and products, and business opportunities

Coordinate between contractors, vendors, and GAF to manage, engineer, and implement projects efficiently without causing production delays or upsets.

Provide crisis management and recovery support as needed in the Manufacturing facilities. Other duties as assigned. 

Technical Skills

Working knowledge of standard manufacturing concepts, practices, & procedures

Advanced ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings

Advanced knowledge of engineering fundamentals

Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatics

Job / General knowledge/skills

Demonstrated leadership in terms of capital project planning, development, and execution including conceptual design, detailed design, construction and installation coordination, technical training, and turnover, start-up support, and sustained ownership.

Working knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations

Advanced demonstrated communications skills; written, verbal, and listening skills

Advanced analytical skills. 

Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail – able to plan, execute, and control multiple tasks simultaneously

Advanced problem solving skills

Under This Roof, We Require 

A BS in Civil or Structural Engineering coupled with a minimum of 15 years of related experience.

The ideal candidate will have a proven background in leading projects

Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplines as project manager and supervise others as a lead engineer.

Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%.

Under This Roof, We Also Value

5 years in a roofing/building products manufacturing organization - (preferred)

Thorough knowledge and experience with computers and G Suite/MSOffice. Drafting experience with CAD, preferably Autodesk products, is preferred.

The preferred location for the position is remote, located within one hour of a large or major airport.

Active PE registration is preferred.

Annual Salary Range: 135,000-172,500
