A Traffic Investigator is devoted to responding to and investigating traffic crashes. Conducts investigations into traffic crashes and collisions, assisting law enforcement agencies in understanding the circumstances surrounding these incidents. Collects, analyzes, and compiles data to establish the circumstances of traffic crashes and assists those involved. Applies an understanding of local and state traffic laws. Other duties include providing traffic direction and control, assisting disabled vehicles, identifying and arranging for removal of abandoned vehicles that obstruct roadways. Duties/Responsibilities + Responds to any calls dispatch assigns to investigate crashes. + Writes reports of assigned traffic crashes from central dispatch. + Assists with traffic control by directing traffic at crash sites and at disabled vehicle sites. + Identifies and arranges for removal of abandoned vehicles that obstruct roadways. + May testify as a witness in court. + Performs various administrative support duties. Minimum Qualifications & Experience + High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC). + Two years of related experience including recordkeeping, public contact, interpretation of rules and regulations and investigation, preferably for a law enforcement agency. + Valid North Carolina class C driver's license, or, if license is from another state, willing able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
