Insurance Claims Attorney – Municipal Risk

Hybrid Work Schedule or Remote

(Remote work eligibility depends on the location of the candidate)

You are the City Manager of a large municipality.  On your watch:

Your police department is involved in a joint task force made up of several officers from different local municipalities. The task force, in executing a warrant, enters the home to find the occupant with a weapon pointed at them. The officers fire at the occupant causing severe injuries including permanent paralysis resulting in millions of future medical care;

Your Emergency Medical Services personnel are responding to a 911 call.  The driver of the ambulance proceeds through an intersection and collides with another vehicle, causing serious bodily injury to the other vehicle’s driver, and the driver sues the City;

A resident is leaving City Hall after paying her taxes and trips and falls on an uneven sidewalk, hitting her head and fracturing her shoulder.  She retains a personal injury lawyer who files a Notice of Tort Claim against the City for negligent maintenance of the sidewalk.

What do you do?

You contact your insurance carrier who issued you a package insurance policy, including various liability coverages, and speak with a qualified Claims Attorney who will review the policy for potential coverage and will retain outside counsel to preserve evidence, control the media narrative, and protect your interests.  That same Claims Attorney will be intimately familiar with your claim and guide you through the litigation process in conjunction with the assigned defense attorney to protect your City’s interests.  The Claims Attorney will rely upon his or her legal experience from the initial coverage analysis through final resolution of the matter.
