This position acts as counsel to policyholders and the Exchange in all legal proceedings, including trial and arbitration. It provides legal representation of policyholders to protect their interests in defense of personal injury and/or property damage lawsuits. This includes defense of complex litigated homeowners, personal injury and property damage lawsuits with moderate to occasionally higher exposure. It also provides legal representation for the Exchange to defend and/or protect its interest in uninsured motorist claims, underinsured motorist claims, small claims appeals, medical payment reimbursement, subrogation actions and other legal actions. It provides legal research and opinions to business units of the Exchange. This position provides assistance on the handling of other attorneys' files, which may include providing guidance to lesser experienced attorneys.
Responsibilities:
Analyze cases to determine all pertinent facts and develop legal theories/strategies in the defense of lawsuits
Identify potential exposure to policyholders or the Exchange
Develop and implement appropriate discovery plan and motions, as needed
Prepare for, attend, and defend all court proceedings related to cases, including trials and arbitrations
Regularly communicate with policyholders and claims representatives regarding case developments
Prepare and present legal opinions on claims issues
Participate in negotiation and settlement of cases with outside parties/entities
Provide assistance in handling other attorneys’ files as needed
Prepare and present training programs for attorneys and Claims staff
Qualifications
JD Required
7-9 years Insurance defense law Required
Thorough understanding of insurance contracts.
Firm grasp of trial procedures and the rules of the evidence.
Valid Driver's License, acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles record and minimum liability insurance - Issued by State Required

The starting pay range for this position is:
$129,400.00 - $172,000.00Additionally, for full time positions, you will be eligible to participate in our incentive program based upon the achievement of organization, team and personal performance.
