ResponsibilitiesThe Claims Representatives Summer Intern program offers interns the opportunity to work closely with claim professionals to learn and assist in all aspects of auto and general liability claim handling.
Key functions include but are not limited to:
Assist in the investigation of auto and general liability claims by interviewing involved parties, witnesses, and policyholders to verify coverage and determine liability and damages.Assist in calculating and establishing timely financial reserves and proactively manage reserve adequacy throughout claim lifecycle.Assist in recording loss information in company’s claims management system and filing necessary forms with state regulatory agencies.Ensure timely and accurate payments to insured’s, claimants, and vendors.Assist in coordinating and managing vehicle repair process and rental management.Assist in settlement negotiations of claims within designated authority.Gain knowledge and demonstrates an understanding of the claim handling best practices and jurisdictional requirements.Identifies and manages referral to Berkely Shared Subrogation ServicesRegularly communicates claim activity and status updates to policyholders, claimants, and other interested parties in a professional, thoughtful and tactful mannerNotifies management and develops reports for large exposure claims and complies with reinsurance reporting requirementsAttends and participates in claim file reviews with management and defense attorneysContinuously strives to improve our product and business results through innovationAssist with special projects or initiatives as assigned by managers, which may include process improvement efforts or research tasks.Participate in training sessions to learn about the claims process, insurance policies, and industry regulations.Work closely with other departments, such as underwriting and customer service, to ensure a smooth claims process.Ensure all claims are processed in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.Communicate with policyholders to gather information, provide updates on claim status, and answer any questions they may have.
