Position Details and Duties
The Classroom Aide is a school employee who works under the direction of a certified Special Education Teacher to support and assist in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible young children. The support and assistance include one-on-one, or group review of material taught by certificated staff, classroom management, and implementation of positive behavioral support plans. Services may be provided in a special education class, regular class, or instructional setting as provided in the students’ IEP.
Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, etc. as assigned by the classroom teacher. Supervise students in designated areas and as assigned (e.g. hallways, bathrooms, cafeterias, playground, gym, field trips, etc.). Monitor all classroom students’ performance and record relevant data daily to assess progress. Assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers. Participate in parent – teacher conferences, as appropriate. Assist in bus loading and unloading of students from transportation. Will fulfill duties of a Behavior Technician as needed.
