Seneca’s James Baldwin Academy is hiring a Classroom Counselor to guide grades 6-12 students to success no matter what challenges they may be facing. Our Classroom Counselors collaborate with Special Education Teachers, School Therapists, and Education Leaders to foster classrooms where students’ therapeutic, behavioral, and academic needs are met. In four small classrooms, they provide individualized attention and direct instruction in core areas to help students make adequate yearly progress on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals while adhering to a general education standards-based curriculum.

Responsibilities Work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team with teachers, therapists, and other specialists /educational staffFoster strong therapeutic relationships with students that support engagement at school and in progress towards individualized goalsAssist with academic instruction, providing individual and group instruction, as directedAid in the implementation of classroom modifications and accommodations as identified by students’ individualized education plans (IEP) or other plansProvide direct behavioral intervention that decreases engagement in behaviors that have impeded school success and increases engagement in replacement behaviors that support academic learning, positive relationship building, and effective community participationUtilize crisis communication and de-escalation techniques as per Seneca's Equilibrium model trainingThis may include intervening with the clients' behavioral program through physical management of the clients, if applicable Training in additional crisis intervention modalities such as CPI may be requiredCommunicate effectively with families and all others involved in the daily life of the student, including other Seneca programs or outside agenciesComplete required data collection and service documentation to measure the effectiveness of services, inform team decision making, and/or engage in service billingTransport clients to and from school as needed with the proper documentation on file with Human Resources Qualifications Education/Experience Requirements:Bachelor’s degree ORAssociate degree or equivalent + 1 year of applicable experience ORHigh School Diploma/GED + 2 years of applicable experienceApplicable experience can include paid or unpaid experience working with youth or families, working in a classroom setting working in a mental health setting, providing academic support to youth, or providing crisis support to youthAt least 21 years of ageTB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirementsValid driver's license, clean driving record, and insurability through Seneca Family of Agencies’ insurance policyProof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination Schedule School based scheduleMonday to Friday: 8 AM- 4:30 PM (ability to work occasional flexible schedule when the school needs vary)5 weeks of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and 14 paid school break days Benefits Starting at $25.46 -$27.96 per hourActual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the roleOpportunity for a salary increase upon passing a bilingual language proficiency examSalary increases each year Comprehensive employee benefits package: Medical, dental, vision, chiropractic, acupuncture, and fertility coverageLong-term disability, family leave, and life insurancePartially paid premiums for dependants 403b retirement planEmployer-Paid Assistance Plan5 weeks of flexible paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and 14 paid school break daysAbundant professional development opportunities, including: Fully-funded embedded bachelor's degree program through Reach University Substantially funded embedded MSW or Education Specialist programs at various universities
