Job Summary
The Y-Scholars Program Director supports African American students and other students of color with the goal of graduating and going on to college and beyond . This position will oversee the entire program while also directly supporting students, freshmen-seniors. Provide afterschool study sessions for students during the week with the support of teachers and volunteers. Assist students and families in the college application process as well as applying for financial aid. Work closely with YMCA, schools, and families to ensure personal and academic success for students. Use effective communication skills to engage students in continuous contact, influence academic success, apply interventions to potential obstacles and boost student morale to help maintain a strong commitment to successful academic progress. Provides general support to young adults in education, college and career readiness, and social emotional needs. Provides information and referral services. Creates a welcoming and supportive environment at the job site.

Responsibilities
+ Provides general support to young adults in education, employment/career development, technology, or other designated field and supports them in achieving their goals. This is primarily done during after school study sessions and monthly one on one meetings.
+ Build strong relationships with Y program participants to effectively provide quality services.
+ Maintains clear, professional, timely participant contact notes, service plans, progress updates, outcomes, and other documentation in designated databases.
+ Supports participant success in key domains such as building strong academic foundation, connections to supportive adults, education and employment, health and well-being, and life skills.
+ Recruit incoming freshmen from local middle schools to form each year’s freshmen class cohort of 30 students. Conduct individual family interviews to share program information and ensure students are a fit for the program. Plan and execute summer retreat for incoming freshmen class.
+ Clearly and effectively communicate with students and families (phone, email, text, etc.) about program happenings and resources to assist in development and college readiness. This
+ includes gathering program information from organizations looking to serve participants and their families.
+ Lead in planning and execution of evening family events to kick off and celebrate the school year.
+ Lead in planning and chaperoning field trips to local college, businesses, and attractions. This includes spring break college tours lasting up to 4 days.
+ Oversee and supervise volunteers and staff for after school study sessions three to four days a week for 60 to 90 minutes a day. Study sessions are often centered around rigorous Honors and Advanced Placement curriculum.
+ Facilitate monthly 1 on 1 meetings with students to discuss grades, successes, challenges, and what (if any) support may be needed
+ Lead in planning and serve as staff at summer youth program
+ Build and maintain relationships with school and staff in the building. This could includes participating in the College Network to share information and plan events with the College & Career Center and other college access providers.
+ As a member of the Youth Development branch, attend staff meetings and other events through the branch.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. *with occasional events/field trips outside of these hours and sometimes overnight trips
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelors’s degree
· Minimum two years of experience working with teens or young adults in education.
· Experience in secondary school honors and Advanced Placement coursework.
· Experience in planning and overseeing program budget
· Experience in supervising staff and volunteers
· Ability to teach effective independence skills for a variety of learning styles and to plan supportive activities.
· Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
· Current state approved First Aid and CPR certification.*
· Current approved HIV blood borne pathogens training.*
· Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

• Master’s degree
