The Opportunity

 Reporting to Chief Steward, as a Cleaner/Driver you will be responsible for cleaning interior passenger and crew areas of vessels and transports cash, materials, and luggage, responsible for the onboard recycling and separation programs on all applicable vessels.

 

The Role

Driving a van to various locations in the Terminal picks up and delivers supplies, mail, revenue bags: loads and unloads foot passenger luggage; transfers large quantities of money from ship to shore to purchase coin; ensures safe handling, care, and transfer of passenger baggageAssisting customers in handling their baggage by transferring from carts to buses or other vehiclesCleaning washrooms; mixes cleaning solutions; wipes down counters, sinks and mirrors; replaces hand towels and toilet paper; removes garbage; cleans and disinfects toilets and urinals; mops decks; and re-stocks suppliesPerforming cleaning routines including windows, passenger seats, stairwells, elevators, bulkheads, air vents, garbage cans and (ids, storerooms, Officer, and crew quartersPicking up papers and garbage; vacuums and/or sweeps passenger areas and wipes up spillsPacking and unpacks stores and distributes to appropriate departmentsEnsuring the onboard recycle program and the separation of wet waste is achieved through; emptying garbage containers from all areas of the vessel; operates garbage compactor; sorts and removes recyclables and ensures wet waste is not disposed of with other materialsPerforming additional duties including assisting with ordering and receiving cleaning supplies: sending out and picking up Laundry and mail; cleaning tables; vessel refit storing and de-storing; and reporting items needing repairAssisting in training new employees; ensuring the safe work practises of the job are identified to trainees; tying and securing carts, aware of all restrictions, # of dollies approved by Motor Vehicle Branch, vehicle safety check is complete, and safe Lifting practises are practisedEnsuring terminal stops during turn-around are well planned and executed, understanding time pressures for the vessel departure and crew changeEnsuring dollies and transfer carts are secure both ashore and during the voyage.Providing information to passengers about ferry schedules, routes, and fares: resolves passenger complaints or refers to supervisor. Seeks assistance from supervisor in urgent or emergency situationsProviding orientation, guidance, and informal training to other employees. Supporting in other customers services related to catering departmentParticipating in safety drills

What you bring to the team

Education and Experience:

1-2 years of customer service experience preferable in food service environmentsSuccessful completion of Grade 12Valid BC Drivers License Abstract (Class 5)Valid Seafarer's Medical CertificateDangerous Goods Level 1 (Handler)Occupational First Aid Level 3 Certificate (may be required)Food Safe or HACCP Certificate
