Job details A transit dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and scheduling the movement of public transportation vehicles, like buses or trains, by assigning routes, monitoring driver locations, responding to service disruptions, and communicating with drivers and passengers through various communication systems to ensure efficient and timely transit operations. Responsibilities:
Vehicle Scheduling:
Creating and managing driver schedules, assigning vehicles to routes, and adjusting schedules based on real-time traffic conditions and service disruptions.
Route Optimization:
Utilizing dispatching software to plan the most efficient routes for vehicles, considering factors like passenger demand, road closures, and vehicle capacity.
Communication with Drivers:
Relaying important information to drivers via two-way radio, including route updates, passenger alerts, and schedule changes.
Passenger Service:
Responding to passenger inquiries about arrival times, route changes, and service disruptions.
Incident Management:
Coordinating with emergency services in case of accidents or delays, informing passengers about disruptions and rerouting options.
Monitoring Vehicle Locations:
Tracking vehicle positions using GPS systems to ensure adherence to schedules and identify potential delays.
Reporting and Data Analysis:
Generating reports on service performance, ridership trends, and operational issues.

Working hours: 6:30 AM - 7:30 PM

Skills:
Bilingual is preferred.
Dispatching experience is preferred.

High School

Qualifications:
Strong communication skills: Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with drivers, passengers, and other staff members over the radio and telephone.
Decision-making abilities: Quickly assess situations and make informed decisions to address unexpected delays or service disruptions.
Technical proficiency: Familiarity with dispatching software, GPS systems, and other computer applications used in transit operations.
Attention to detail: Accurately monitor schedules, routes, and vehicle locations to maintain efficient service.
